What indicates Permanent Nerve Damage of lower limbs? - Dr. Hanume Gowda

About the nerve damage that would have happened during the disease process whether they improve after surgery. TILF or they don't improve. The point is if it is permanent damage happened to the nerve because of long standing disease process it will not improve and is it is short process that is within few months you have come and got operated then the nerve damage that must have happened leading to nerve weakness or muscle weakness will recover over a period of time. But the recovery of the nerve after Spinal surgery is never guaranteed, the surgery is to prevent further nerve damages to the muscles and and sensation of lower limbs.

I got diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrome with bladder retention about 6 months ago. They keep telling me that feeling in my legs and saddle area could come back, and the nerve pain could get better, but I'm feeling less optimistic. It took MONTHS for them to give me an MRI and finally do the surgery, I already had nerve pain and sciatica/weakness in both legs for several months before they caught the issue. I kinda see that as irreversible.
That's okay, though. I can stand and walk very short distances with a walker, and I'm about to get a wheelchair because walking is so difficult. After 6 months of not being able to leave my house, I'm really excited for the wheelchair.

Thank you ! How long do nerves have to heal after the injury ? Also can nerves be fixed now ?

Love the video even though it is 7 years old. People with nerve and bad Sciatic pain learn from this and don't wait. My surgeon made me wait too long and used an epidural steroids trying to fix the pain, still could not stand or walk so just another 2 months of pain. Finally had a discectomy woke up sciatic pain free but now both feet are almost completely numb. I ended up rupturing the disc again after sneezing one morning right when covid hit and hospitals were scary and crowded and the pain was even worse than the first time, had a fusion a week or so later (luckily my surgeon had an out patient surgery center) woke up pain free again but with some back pain as expected but doing much better in 2023. I just hate this feeling in my feet and toes being numb now. I even had a nerve conduction test showing there is nerve damage. Good luck to anyone experiencing back pain.

Sir i had surgery on shaft of femur about 3 weeks ago with plate and screw inserted. But I have pain in my upper foot and toe like it is burning from inside. The pain comes and goes many time in a day and increases at night that i am unable to sleep properly and that particular area that pains became like numb and lost sense but completely look healthy from outside like the other foot. So kindly advise what could be the issue there. Could it be because of nerve damage while surgery? Other than that i am able to move my leg without problem and dont have any issue in other part of my body. Its just the pain in foot that is worrying me.
