The hospital wasn't pulling this guy's leg they really did keep his leg.

Donating your leg instead of throwing it out actually helps doctors and scientists research and find out ways to help future patients, I hope that you know you’re a legend!

Years ago I had a benign tumor growing in my right shin. Every surgeon we talked to wanted to amputate my leg from the knee down. Well, out of chance, we met with this surgeon out of Dallas, he was in El Paso at the children's hospital, he said they had a new procedure that was being tested that would allow me to keep my leg. Well sure enough, they flew the equipment in, and started that weekend and boy howdy was it amazing. At the time I didn't understand because I was a kid, but years later I was told how the procedure was done, and it amazed me. They drilled a hole, about half the size of a ping pong ball, and enveloped the tumor with some kind of aperatus that unfolded around it, and they quite literally cooked it! I still have that surgical scar, but I remember walking the next day. In fact I went back to school the following week!

My dad is a below the knee amputee, but before that just a midfoot, and before that the first metatarsal (big toe). When his big toe was amputated he at the time was dating someone who worked at a funeral home, and he had the toe sent to that funeral home so he could "be buried with it" but he actually took it home and had it for a few years sitting on the mantle preserved in embalming fluid. In preschool for show and tell one time I brought my dad and his severed toe, much to the amazement of the other children and to the horror of the teacher. Eventually we had a house fire and the toe was destroyed, my dad still hadn't had the midfoot amputation yet so after the fire if anyone asked how he lost his toe he said he lost it in the fire.

I was wondering how this guy lost his leg. What a badass, I can't even imagine losing a leg and this dude somehow manages to keep his spirits held high and everything. Incredible job, dude, this random stranger wishes you the best

U speak about something so personal and don't get affected by it you're very brave.

Thing: The Leg

Sounds much better than Thing: The Hand

EDIT: I'm confused with the comments right now.

I was studying to be a Medical Assistant and a student actually had this exact question, our professor told us that when she worked in hospital, any amputated limbs were actually disposed of in the hospital morgue.

I watched a video about a woman who kept her uterus for “religious reasons” (though I think she wasn’t particularly religious and it was more of an observed loophole).
I now wonder if you could have kept your leg on those grounds and had it preserved. And that’s not to say it should be taken from cancer research. I would imagine you could have volunteered your leg to be researched periodically. I suppose it depends on how often they need to look at it? I wonder if it’s looked at and studied every day.

Do you know where your leg is now? Maybe it’s been all around the country for various studies or as a teaching aid! That’d be wild.

Edit: idk how an emoji got dropped in the middle of my sentence but here we are. It’s gone now.

It’s so good to see that this guy from a certain point only had one real leg yet he still puts out content and looks really happy every video, fair play

If for any reason I need to have a limb amputated, I want the bones, just to like hang up on the mantle or use it as a cane.

You make it sound like, if your cancer was slower and less angry, they would’ve let you keep the leg.
