I did it by figuring out that a=1/2-+sqrt(3)/2 and b=1/2-+sqrt(3)/2, and if one of them has a plus, the other has a minus. It took a lot longer because I'm dumb and didn't figure out the smart way to do it.

a power 8 +b power 8 can be obtained by multiplying (a power 4 + b power 4)( a power 4 + b power 4) = (a 8 + b 8) _2a4b4=7/2*7/2 _ 2x(_1/2)power4=49/4 minus1/8=97/8. This method will help finding other combinations like a7 +b7, a11 +b11 etc.isn't it?
