Sonos is committed to making the S2 app better

I have had my fair share of frustration with the Sonos S2 app refresh. But after a few months and multiple updates later, things are looking brighter and Sonos CEO, Patrick Spence, is committed to making the app better. Personally, I have no doubt that they will make things right. And when the new product launches, it should signal that the S2 app is ready and up to speed.

I appreciate your passion for Sonos. I have been a fan and buyer for years but they have made critical mistakes. Some of their employees from behind the scenes have come out and shared that they were aware of the issues but rushed out the update so they could launch the Ace cans. The CEO is the person that is responsible for making the call to launch or wait. He makes the most money to take on the responsibility. The buck stops with him. He blew it. He should be fired. Time to promote or bring in someone that will make the right call now and in the future. It will send the message to current and future customers that things will change. Rock on.

Actually, a question: Why don't they just have a proper Beta version test group so the people who want can try the updates & find the problems/bugs before releasing it and stop forcing the rest of us to upgrade to unstable versions?

Your definition of holding someone "accountable" (in this case, yes, the Sonos CEO) is so bloody perfect. Make them fix it. Don't just flick them first up.

The deeper you look the more issues you find. Once a song is in the queue you can’t move it to another place in the queue you also can’t delete it. The only option is to delete the entire queue or look up the artist.

12:11 to be honest with you the first thing that can come to mind that I think a large number of people would probably agree with, all your pre-existing customers send them an individual promo code of perhaps 40 to 45% off discount of the total price for any Sonos products. Now you know they may have to play with that percentage so instead of 45% it could be 50% or even 40%, but I do believe that this would temper your customers and clients issues with these ridiculous updates as of late.

My biggest concern is the change to a cloud based architecture, moving away from local LAN communications for a lot of the functionality.

Sonos is facing a lot of competition in the soundbar market. One easy way to counter some of that competition is to all the Arc to pair with a set of front speakers. Now, all you can do is group them. I’d like to be able to pair them and then do TruePlay for the entire system. And yes, I am talking about 4 Era 300s (2 front, 2 rear), 2 subs and the Arc.

Personally, and it seems luckily(?) I have had minimal problems with the app but with all the noise from others I have to respect that. I have used Sonos for many years now and really want the business to thrive, sure, they messed up and that’s bad but it does seem they are fixing it. I have no plans to throw out thousands of pounds of kit due to this though

Sonos first screwed up their software in 2022 - that wasn't fixed for many months. Then this mess happened. Yeah - they might fix it this year - but history seems to prove that theyll screw it up again. No more sonos purchases for me. Too much of a gamble.

I’m using the latest app version. Just recently noticed I can’t access my system using the app. I tried unsuccessfully to reinstall my components (Arc v1, sub v2 & 2 - SL Ones (rears). Any solutions?

My system sounds better, after I reset all of my speakers and add them individually again. Just wish tuning option was available again.

Fully agree with yours comments. Would you bring back S2 and take your time to issue a better app ? If Sonos take this way, is the Sonos Ace will work with S2?

Hi Peter, are you playing that test clip with VLC off your PC?
I've found that VLC wont apply EQ changes Ive made in the sonos app (ie. increasing height audio wont make the height channels any louder) but (Windows) Media Player will apply the EQ changes. Have you noticed anything similar?

Hi some while ago I lost connection to my music library which is connected to an external drive on my Mac, I have tried to contact Sonos and they said they will sort it in the near future. I have tired to follow the wizard to connect my library, I did this some years ago without problems. It is now saying unable to share folder etc. I would appreciated if anyone knows is this issue relating to the app upgrade . Many thanks for a great show.

The major issue I still have is this~ if I have a queue of music in my cinema room and switch to watch tv there is no way to switch from the Tv to the previous queue ~ the queue is gone ~ is anyone else having this issue or is this just me?

Hi Peter it was myself who told you about the Sonos upgrade program which I had via email.
I will wait to see about the app updates, as I have no confidence at all with this Sonos update.
My system has crashed so many times, dare not turn it back to S1 just put up with S2 for the time being as it’s stable at present for me. (2months)
Sonos need to give ALL CUSTOMERS NOT JUST 2024 customers freebies, to say sorry for there mess.!
I Will keep an eye on your channel, im sure many of your subscribers will be moaning including myself😢 if I upgrade soon.

It’s nice to see update notes with the app, but what about a published page for update notes with the speaker hardware?

I rarely feel sympathy for retailers, given their markup, but brick-and-mortar SONOS resellers must be fuming. Assuming everything from the May fiasco is fixed by October, resellers have had 6 months of dealing with irate customers. You questioned why anyone would want to go back to the S1 software - surely that would be preferable to dealing with the botched app ? As mentioned earlier in this thread, beta acceptance testing is a thing - apparently not when you have a new pair of headphones to flog.

Very frustrating. I had no issues until 2 months ago. We had to replace our router, and I haven’t been able you use my rear speakers or two subs since. I can’t reach customer service on the phone. Trying to get help through chat is impossible. They are having to do so much, they can’t focus on my issue and we don’t solve the issue. If anyone can help that would be great!

I Thais for your update. I bought this week a Sonos Arc. After installing my new system - Sonos Arc and two Sonos one 2Gen speakers - I calibrated the system with Trueplay. But to be honest I find the sound of the system dramatic. The system sounds horrible, white or without Trueplay.
I did follow the instructions on you’r Trueplay YouTube vid. But the sound didn’t improve. My old system -Canadian company- sounded without calibrating a lot better. My room size is 32 m². Could this be also a software issue?
