I wish I knew this growing up in Alaska. It’s very dark and cold there. With this demonstration there can still be the harmful rays. As an adult, I appreciate the face lotions and face makeup with sunscreen.

Thank you so much. I have skin cancer and I have 6 operations on my face and neck they are all bad cancer I am sorry to say. I am glad you informed us about the UV Rays because I actually didn’t think that far. I don’t go out much in the meantime but I have a UV blocker just in case.

A lesson I knew, ignored, and suffered. 😅 It was overcast in Texas, summer time. Sitting outside, no shade, NO SUNSCREEN, been there about an hour. I made the comment that one is more likely to sunburn on overcast days than sunny days, due to the water in the cloud reflecting sun at a high output, like a magnifying glass with the sun. Proceeded to sit in outside for another 3 HOURS. I am NEON white with light freckles. I was redder than a cooked lobster. Back of my right hand, all the way up my arm, shoulder, back(was wearing a tank top), chest, face, and inner left arm. Oh. My. Gosh. It hurt so bad. SIL had 100% aloe vera gel in her fridge. So after a LONG, COOL, shower to pull as much heat as possible out, I applied the aloe gel religiously, washing gentle with mild soap and cool water between applications. Sunburn was gone in less than a week. I got lucky and got away with zero scabbing or blisters, minimal peeling.

Had a sunburn about 12 years ago, was crawfish hunting, no sunscreen(I'm an idiot 😅) 6 hours of the sun beating down on my back. First stop Sunburn Central, second stop Whole Back Peeled At Once 😱. The PAIN my poor skin was in! All fresh and new! 😭 I couldn't move without my skin cracking it was so dry. Aloe hurt to apply. I survived sitting in cool baths several times a day, soaking the back of my shirt, putting it on, folding a towel, setting it on my back, using a belt to hold it in place. I had to do this for almost a week before it was healed. And yes, I went to the doctor. She told me there wasn't much to do other than applying a burn cream. She started to apply it and it burned so bad I screamed, she immediately removed it and cleaned the area. She told me to just keep doing what I was doing, since it worked, and if I notice any odd swelling, oder, or off color to come back immediately. Luckily nothing bad happened.
I have had bad bad sunburns as a kid. One time my whole back was so badly sunburnt it scabbed, my WHOLE back. Another time, I developed a blister on top of each shoulder. My parents did not take me to the doctors for either.

But after being mostly indoors all winter (I live in Minnesota)wouldn't I want to get some of the vitamin D by being outside? And wearing sun screen would that not block your ability to get the vitamin D?

UV is a trigger for my cold sores. In fact if I’m not super careful while skiing or snowshoeing- they pop up. I got one now from being outside for a few hours over the weekend.

Isn’t a natural source of vitamin D, one of the most important immune system needs, going to be from the sun and especially in the winter, a necessity?
