It's summertime, and after a year of being locked up in quarantine it's time to step outside (safely) and get some ultraviolet rays of sunshine. But before you go soaking up that sun you'd better get that sunscreen on, because otherwise your skin will literally burn, and the damage that can be caused by a sunburn can actually be serious. Find out what sunburns really are doing to your skin right now!

The most metal description of what sunburn is I've heard was "Sunburn is basically your cells commiting suicide before turning cancerous because of radiation damage"

Just got back from the beach with the worst sunburn I’ve ever had. Took a shower and nearly blacked out from the pain several times. It was like bathing in acid.

I had a HECK of a sunburn when I went to Louisiana and just spent 15 minutes outside relaxing. I was in bed, unable to move for 3 days taking Ibuprofen 600s as often as medically recommended.

I remember in 5th grade we went to a water park and I got a sunburn that covered my entire back I have always worn a shirt to go swimming since :EDIT: I Was wearing sunscreen I just have sensitive skin also to those calling me fat atleast I can accept my body image unlike you maybe if you had the body of a goddess as you think you wouldn't feel so self conscious and feel the need to make fun of some random guy on the internet

The one thing that I remember from my health class in high school was a video describing this in horrifying detail. Basically made it seem like any sun exposure at all immediately started the cancer clock and that melanoma was imminent and inevitable. Freaked me out lol

Wait if sunburns are radiation burns, does that mean that the extreme sickness people feel when they have sun poisoning is a mild form a radiation poisoning?

Fun fact: After bathing in a river, elephants often indulge in a mud bath to form a protective layer on their skin which prevents sunburn. So have a mud bath :)

Sunburn caused me a 2nd degree. I stayed at hospital for 5 days. My shoulders was full of blisters. My legs was hurting so bad that I couldn’t walk.

I went to pool with my friends for 8 hours without an umbrella and with a wrong sun cream.

The doctors started peeling off my skin(removing the blisters) and it was very hurtful. They recommended me some creams to use after the sunburn in body (dermasin, cicatridine).

I recommend everybody: dont go to pool or beach without a best sun cream, especially when you have a soft skin.

I’ve only ever had a sunburn once or twice. The second time was a tiny one on my shoulders, but the first one was crazy! I was on vacation in Mexico as a kid, and it’s very hot there. We wore tank tops/shorts and other similar clothing, so our skin was exposed. Even though we kept swimming around in the outdoor pool, most of us were still very warm. Eventually, I jumped into the pool and submerged my shoulders aND IT BURNED. I remember freaking out and finding out I had gotten a sunburn on my shoulders and it was surprisingly painful

With growing up in the Florida keys, I had relatives constantly in the sun getting sunburned as it was a normal occurances but also skin cancer that reduces your life by years and this occured to several relatives much like many of your families. Later in life, I can't take the heat yet still live in Florida. I want to move to a colder climate but own way to much and our economy is just not great at the moment to sell off.
