Do I need the Ubiquiti Unifi Cloud Key? (UC-CK)

In this video I unbox, install, and talk about what the cloud key is and what it does. This cost me about $95 after all was said and done. Its great monitoring hardware/software and I hope this video helps.

Finally!! You are the first person to explain what the Cloud Key is. I watched several videos before this to get the answer and none did. Did you given any consideration to using a Raspberry Pi? The savings is minimal but it is still a cheaper option that seems to get the job done.

I actually purchased a raspberry pi and set it up as a controller. $35.00 solution, so far its been running strong for the past month.

I was absolutely clueless as to the cloudkey being the controller resulting in no need for the java software on a pc or vm.

Long story, but I ended up with an unused CloudKey after the guy who installed our network literally disappeared off the surface of the earth after drawing all the wiring and setting up the equipment, but, crucially, before showing me how to access everything! Ended up having to factory reset everything so I could adopt all the devices, but I was still puzzled by the CloudKey. Thank you for finally describing why I should install the CloudKey as well. Better explanation than what I got from UBNT!

Stupid question, but if you already have a dedicated POE network switch, can you just connect it to the cloud key directly? Thanks!

I'm looking to set up a guest wifi captive portal for a coffee shop space within our church and I've been looking at the built-in offering from Ubi. Do you know if a network key + access point will work? Or will I need more hardware than that?

I have internet of course that I'll provide into the system..

Wondering if I can use any switch to connect the key and AP.

Why do you need this again? Just to monitor your network? For what?

Is your set up is like Modem --> Ubiquiti Service Gateway --> Cisco Switch --> CloudKey/Ubiquity PoE Wireless Access Point? If this is the case, you have a non ubiquiti switch in between. Will you be able to manage the SG and WAP with a cloud key connected to Cisco Switch(a non Ubiquiti device)?

2 Question: I am setup using idle Windows10 pc as the Unifi Control.
1. How difficult is it to switch to this device ?
2. I am running version 6.2.25 and the check box to use guest profile is not offered. I assume this is not an issue with this device.

Hi I know this video is old but I am dealing with a cloud key at this time. I do not have the login credentials but need to regain access. If i were to reset this will it bring down my WAP's requiring me to build the Wifi network again?
