Do you think Ubiquiti have killed off any other items?

First video I've seen that dives into the specifics of the NVMe drive, i.e. showing that it is a standard, swappable NVMe and not proprietary! Love to see it!!

I would have preferred to have PoE or even SFP+ over the NVMe and support for cameras. Almost everyone need WiFi from the day 1, not everyone starts their setup with cameras

Swapped this in for my USG. Moved the Unifi site to it from my Cloud Key and now the Cloud Key runs Protect only and this runs the Unifi OS. Low-cost bit of kit, and very straightforward upgrade path. The only reason I did it was to set up a permanent privacy VPN connection which you cannot do on the USG.

I don't think the CG-Max kills off as much as you think it does. Speaking in terms of US $, then the CG-ultra is $70 cheaper which for a number of people will perfectly be fine. There's still a market that doesn't worry/need to worry too much about future proofing and would rather have that $70 to spend on something like a POE switch. Yes, it would be nice to future proof, but for me I don't need to go beyond 1gig and if you use IPS/IDS, then you are only gaining a half gig. Moreso if you only need the device to be a router. The Cloud Key still has a market for those that need more storage which if you are running Protect with video recording, you will need. The UDR and Express are nice if you need an AP included with it if you didn't want to pay another $100 at minimum. Though I see the UDR being the odd man going by the waste side, but does still give you more ports than the Express. I think too many people are thinking that everyone has the same needs as they do and have lots of money in their wallet to spend it on things that don't suit them. That being said, I would have loved to look at the Max when I was replacing my UDM, but the Ultra suits my needs 100% and allowed me to keep $70 or more likely $200 because I probably would have wanted to upgrade the storage higher even though I didn't need it. It would have been nice, but I wouldn't really need what the Max offers and when it comes to the future I'll probably be looking to replace the Ultra when I get to the point of need more than 1 gig speeds.

Can you check if this allows for multi-site management? The cloud gateway ultra only allows single site.

Hi there. What about this product compared to the dream machine pro? I am in the process of buying one of those two right now and am wondering, if there is (apart of POE-Ports of the DM SE) any reason to prefer the DM SE over the gateway Max? Only a hand full access points and cameras will be used. Thank you.

Am planning of having 7-8 unifi camera, 2 unifi AP, i dont ips/ids firewalling, as i will be running sophos home, and i also have a mini pc with 2 2.5gbe, will it be better to have UDM ou this with a 16/24port POE switch

If you have fibre internet like Cityfibre install will this be able to handle this and replace the providers hub?

At the moment I'm not interested in the NVR section. If I get it without the disk, can I add it later? Does the Network part still work without NVM disk?

Hi, what is your advice…the Cloud Gateway Ultra of Max? I have a 1Gb Ethernet connection and I only use the network option in Unifi because my cameras are from Eufy.

As a current CloudKey G2 user for both home (network and protect) and work (network) the Cloud Gateway models do not have a rack mount option. I use the rack mount for both home and work.

Looks like a very affordable and effective device.

I have been completely underwhelmed by the other small form factor devices that you have stated it could replace. They were simply too limited to actually be useful. Cloud Cloud Key Gen 2 + runs ultra hot and literally cooks the hard drives, so this unit should be a good replacement for small sites.

I use my ckg2+ as a multi site unifi network host as my cloud gateway ultra doesnt support that feature but is now my gateway with multi wan. Yes, this is a multi app do it all box. It was more economical to stick with my previously owned cgk2+ then a complete overhaul

If possible, can you test whether the new gateway supports more than 2 TB storage? Unifi claims the max is 2 TB. So, if you can, put 4TB drive in there to see if it mounts and is fully usable. If not then the cloud key will continue to have some appeal because it supports sata drives of at least 4 TB, possibly more. This is important for protect because if you have multiple cameras (2K or 4K) recording continuously, protect will eat thru 2TB relatively quickly.

Thanks for the video. Wish I had watched it before I made my purchase as realised the Gateway Max and Cloud Gateway Max are not the same product even though they look the same and are the same price. Rather confusing for Ubiquity to name them so similar. Corrected my mistake now and purchased the correct one.

Greetings,

I have been testing my UCG-Max this weekend, and externally I am getting slightly higher temperatures.
The processor (without much workload) registers about 70 degrees Celsius, reaching 80/85 degrees Celsius when I make it work.

Do you think this is normal?
