Ive started living life and changing my environment like if I were autistic and the effects have been amazingly good

Diagnosis or not it was an amazingly good idea, and have gained so much insight

I don't think an adult would pursue a diagnostic assessment unless they already thought they were probably autistic. Of course, someone might be diagnosed as part of seeing a clinician about something else (anxiety, ADHD, etc) or as a result of seeing a clinician about their child. But I saw a clinical psychologist specialising in ASD because I thought I was on the spectrum. The fact that the psychologist did diagnose me confirmed that my self-diagnosis had been on the right track. I would never have undergone that process unless I thought a diagnosis was very likely.

I have a friend who was diagnosed as a child and I recently self diagnosed. I do not have an official diagnosis because I was punished for my autistic traits and learned to mask and I can not afford an official diagnosis now.

Unless you are able to differentiate between diagnosis across the whole of the DSM, you should use a medical disclaimer and advise people to consult a trained professional.
