Although not as popular as other nuts and seeds such as almonds, walnuts and chia seeds, chestnuts offer incredible health benefits for our bodies and contain unique and potent compounds that make them a welcome addition to practically any diet. As well, chestnuts are incredibly nutrients dense and offer amazing amounts of nutrition in only a small serving size. Just be sure to eat them in moderation since they can be quite high in carbohydrates and calories. Lets discuss some of the amazing health benefits chestnuts can provide when consumed regularly.

1. First, as mentioned previously, chestnuts are incredibly nutrient dense and offer many different types of vitamin, minerals and other nutrients in high quantities. This includes important nutrients such as manganese, vitamin B6, vitamin C, folate, potassium, copper and riboflavin to name a few. They are also loaded with dietary fibre and are surprisingly high in antioxidant compounds. All of these high quality nutrients makes them a great choice for anyone looking to add nutrition to their diets.

2. Consuming chestnuts regularly can also help to improve the health of our bones and keep them healthy. This is because they are loaded with bone healthy nutrients. Specifically, chestnuts are a great source of manganese. Studies have shown that manganese is vital to bone health since it is not only stored in our bones directly, but also because it can help prevent bone loss and improve bone density. This makes chestnuts helpful in fighting certain bone ailments, such as osteoporosis while also promoting strong bones.

3. Chestnuts can also help to promote the health of our heart and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. This is often attributed to heart healthy minerals that chestnuts contain, such as potassium, as well as the many potent antioxidant compounds. The antioxidants found in chestnuts can help to reduce inflammation throughout the entire body and cardiovascular system, which improves heart health. As well, due to the high levels of potassium that chestnuts contain, they can also help to lower blood pressure.

4. They can also help to improve digestion a number of different ways. When consumed, chestnuts can have beneficial and protective effects on probiotics found within the gastrointestinal tract. These gut healthy bacteria promote the overall health of the digestive system as well as promote better digestion and nutrient uptake from the foods we eat. As well, chestnuts are a great source of dietary fibre. This gut healthy fibre can help food pass through the digestive tract and alleviate certain gut disorders such as constipation and bloating.

5. Lastly, regular consumption of chestnuts can help to improve cognitive function. This is largely attributed to the high amount of B-vitamins that chestnuts contain. They are great sources of several different B-vitamins, such as riboflavin, folate, thiamin and vitamin B6. These vitamins play a vital role in the overall health of our brain and its function. As well, chestnuts can help to reduce inflammation in the body, which could lead to certain brain disorders and impair cognitive function. Always discuss with your medical practitioner for further treatment and prevention methods in this regard.

Thank you, the moderation bit is the tough one 😀 I have great memories as a child. My dad roasting them on an opem fire. He's lay a newspaper on the floor. Put salt on it. We'd all sit around, including our dog. Have a great day 😍

If you said eating 20 a day is recommended that’s how many I would eat. I am sad when their season ends in December. I’ve heard you can freeze them raw. Anyone out there tried freezing?
