I'm writing this from El Salvador. My wife's family lives here and we are visiting. I've been coming here for 10 years, and although I've never felt unsafe here, the change in this country over the past few years is nothing short of astounding. High rises are going up, people are driving Audis and Jaguars on the roads. Many of the local corner stores have removed the bars across their doors and the suburbs are spreading outward into areas once deemed too dangerous. Gastropubs, luxury hotels, you name it, its happening here. New libraries, hostpials and public parks are being built. And yeah, for us, it's exciting to see. No country would ever willingly give this up to go back to terror in the streets. Thats why 85% voted.

My dad is from El Salvador and he rarely went back to the country because he just didn’t feel it was safe enough, now with Bukele and the changes hes made my dad is planning a trip for the whole family to go

I’ve traveled there every 16 months or so for almost 15 years. The difference is astounding. El Salvador has gone from trucks announcing the death of citizens in the Pueblo’s, daily shootings and robbery, extortion and savage violence. You now can walk around without fear, celebrate the night life, there’s people jogging on the sidewalks and kids now enjoying their childhood. It’s truly a beautiful thing to see. Nayib has saved the country from total destruction.

My girlfriend's parents are refugees from the El Salvador civil war in the 80s. Her father went back for the first time again last year, because it was safe enough to do so.

I watched Bukele speak at CPAC, first time I have listened to him speak a d I think he is amazing. Actually a must watch. I wish we could have a Bukele in South Africa.

I talked to a guy from el salvador who said that in 2015 he was afraid have his kids walk to school because he didn't know if they came home alive, thats how bad crime got. Im not surprised bukele is so popular for restoring his nation

I’m Salvadoran myself and I’m really happy our country is now getting the recognition it deserves. Many people do not know where the Salvador is located nor the history. But at one point it put us in the map as one of the most dangerous countries in the world. If anyone feels bad for these criminals or for people associated with them, remember they showed no mercy when they mutilated innocent people and left their bodies in the street to convey a message.

I am currently here visiting, it’s the first time my dad has been back since in 35 years, and speaking with my family. You won’t understand how how happy and safe they are the gangs extorted the humble street vendors and now my aunt says it’s the first time you see people out past 6pm

It's crazy to see how a drastic decision managed to get a drastic change in the crime rate. I have a bunch of Salvadorean friends and despite the whole world debating whether or not this violates human rights, the people in El Salvador highly approve Nayib Bukele.

My moms side of the family is Salvadoran and when they fled it was because of wars that broke out due to gangs being violent, my mom and grandpa love him they praise him and they don’t call it anything short of astounding, my uncle is a supporter too it’s nice to see they’ve been able to do that and also see Joe and will talk about it. Gonna show my mom this clip later today

Went to el salvador last week. Drove from santa ana to the border in honduras out east. Never felt scared. Great vacation
