President-elect Donald Trump has repeatedly vowed to shutter the federal Department of Education and relegate all educational responsibility to individual states—a move that could impact crucial funding for K-12 schools and hamper civil rights enforcement—but experts warn it’s unlikely the federal government will be able to be hands off when it comes to education regulation, even if the department is closed.

I hope we all know that it doesn't matter who is in the 'top job' because this is a systemic problem -- greed. We have allowed many of our economic sectors, to take advantage of the American people. It's disgusting and frightening for the future of our country. My wife and I will be retiring in the next two years n another country.
We are absolutely worried that SSI will no longer be funded. we'll have to rely on pension, a 403 (b) and a very prolific Investment account with my Stephanie Janis Stiefel my FA. Our national debt is bloating and expanding every month. Our government needs to get spending under control and cut the federal budget.

There is an urgent need for radical reforms in the education system across the globe. The primary objective must be to empower students with the confidence to pursue their chosen paths. To achieve this, education systems must evolve beyond merely certifying students with impressive qualifications. Instead, they should focus on nurturing well-rounded individuals who are effective communicators and possess the skills to contribute positively to society. By making education systems more fit for purpose, we can create great students who are not only knowledgeable but also valuable assets to humanity.

27 year public high school teacher here. Aside from distribution of appropriate grants where needed, 98% of the Department of Education can be terminated with no negative impact on educational outcomes.

Answer is yes, he will. However, states like MS, AR, AL, NE, KY, LA, and WV needs funding for their schools because the states can't provide the necessary means for children's education, so not sure how that will work out.

Let parents and local school authorities handle education. They are right there.
The federal government has been involved in education for 40 years. Are things getter any better?
What a waste of money. Jimmy Carter NEVER did anything good.

In bypassing the Federal government Dept of Education and spending the money direct to the States we eliminate an expensive and unnecessary layer of administration and allow those dollars to actually get to the students and venues in each State

Letting the states take care of their own thing is the best thing you could do. They’re a lot closer to the problems that they have that a blanket problem if you make it law among the nations.

With education in the hands of the States we will have 50 different experiments in education and the under performing States can model their programs after States that are getting great results and the quality of education will be enhanced for all.

I am fortunate to have been educated prior to the Department being created in 1979. No more indoctrination.

There is one tiny little problem with what people are saying here : what exactly was stopping Republicans from becoming teachers in the past 40 years of complaining about liberal education? If you can't answer that then that ruins, well, EVERYTHING! But y'all didn't think of that did you? It's the kind of thinking that makes you a good teacher :)
