Trump wants to shut down the Department of Education: Here’s what that could mean

President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to abolish the Department of Education.

On the campaign trail, he repeatedly pointed to the agency as a symbol of federal overreach into the everyday lives of American families.

“I say it all the time, I’m dying to get back to do this. We will ultimately eliminate the federal Department of Education,” he said in September during a rally in Wisconsin.

Retired middle school English teacher with 35 years, and I vote DO Department of Education spends billions chasing the newest fad or approach. If the public could see the storage rooms piled with last year's resources because the department of education says this year's are better, and it happens each year....the Department of Education doesn't care if kids can read, write, or think, it only cares about wasting money.

When Jimmy Carter created the Dept of Education the U.S. was #1 in the world in both high school and college education. We are now #24 in the world rankings. The numbers for K-12 spending reveal that the U.S. spends $16, 080 per public school student per year, which totals $794.7 billion.

The Department of Education began in 1979. The USA was #1 in the world. Since then, our ranking has steadily declined. Also, the reporters comment that “evidence of indoctrination is lacking” is a very partisan biased opinion…

Honestly from my own experience in public schools I believe there is a lot of corruption and the whole system needs to be restructured.

Most these kids can’t even do math or tell the time. There’s videos of people in the street’s asking them random questions and it’s shocking how little they know.

They’re all riled up about race and gender, but couldn’t tell you anything about history, math, English etc…
