I have the Wampler Tumnus. Leaving the hype behind, it's just an incredible pedal.

The Nobels ODR-1it's my desert Island overdrive. But at the same time I can't leave out my tumnus. So that's my desert island BOOST (Overdrive... and boost)

I don't use it with much gain. But I don't put the gain too low either. It's magic because it stacks with ANY kind of dirt pedal, making it sound better.

Took me a long time to get into these.. plenty of decent clones or similar designs out there- but I was usually turned off or didn't find them that special as a simple overdrive pedal. BUT- I usually run something on top of my amp like an EQ, or a compressor, or a light overdrive with some sculpting - one day I tried a "klone" in that place- it ended up cutting some muddy lows and restore some mids lacking from my single coils- but with the gain off or barely rolled up- it was a perfect companion to my vox ac15, and anytime I rolled the drive a bit higher it gave a nice feedback frequency. I think the design actually cuts your signal into three pieces- one is pronounced around 100hz and another is high-pass filtered I think to be less muddy- the third is that blendable gain stage, and the result is it pretty much makes anything you send into it sound bigger and clearer.. hard to go back to EQ or Compression pedals when this does all that

2004 Dave Hunter wrote a book about guitar effects pedals. On page 117 he mentions a price of 279 USD for a brand new Klon Centaur. And he says that "despite the price " orders would still be coming in. Man, if he only knew...

A thousand guitar channels on YT but come back to yours over and over.
Only a bedroom rocker; been watching the klon hype for years, but had higher priorities— until Josh dropped his 99-Notta - how could I pass on that? I find I’m using this pedal circuit almost all the time. It can be almost imperceptibly subtle, or hard in-your-face crunch. The reputation is legit.

Love this vid. Despite many of the fun Klone vs clone debate/comparison videos and their comments, I recommend anybody grab a high rated clone and not look back wondering what you're missing. My Centura is fantastic and beautifully made. Always on with any of my tweed style amps. With big fat buckers (17 Santana retro in my case) that treble knob works tone and clarity wonders. Agreed, with the Princeton, I leave this heavy clunker at home. Otherwise, always worth it to pack the brick.

I’ve watched lots of Klon videos …. This is the best yet. Surprising amount of new (and first hand) information along with clear usage examples. Great job, J.

I just used a Klon based pedal on my Fractal FM9 yesterday for the first time and holy crap what a sound. Can’t imagine how good the real thing is through a tube amp 🤯

Seems to me this thing is trying to sound like a custom deluxe, but in a pedal. Cool that its from Boston! Wish they were still made haha

Hi Jay, I’ve been a fan for years. What is the closest sounding klone that you’ve experienced? I’ve got the Decibelics and Ceriatone and love them. I also loved the Way Huge Conspiracy Theory and RYRA. However, I’ve played a few klones that were not very good.
Thanks.

What did it cost in 2004? Just curious. I'd think about $500ish?

Love Your Stories, Knowledge, and Passion for the sounds man! Love your breakdown of how any of these pedals may or may not work for what we would be trying to seek in our own rigs!

i lucked out and am so glad i dislike this pedal- However, Karma got me in the end as after waiting 5 years on the list, the King of Tone arrived at my house, I so badly wanted to hate it and sell it for a nice profit- i ended up loving the thing.

Hey Jay, very informative video mostly about the website and the communication with the builder. Thanks for it. My 2 cents here talking about enhancers: My all time unbeatable enhancer is the xotic rc booster v1 with the lamp close to the switch (not the one with lamp above). I have tried all the available xotic boosters plus around 29 more clean boosters. I think that OP amp has a magic dust on it. (Even the xotic super clean sounds very similar). I keep eq flat and volume and gain around 10-11 I clock. I get a couple of DB boost on my clean fender amps. It is loke a great buffer after my fuzzes. Even my fuzzes sound better with it on after them. And when it pushes my distortion pedals (rats or black cat od 1) it makes them sound more saturated, bigger and the same time more articulate. Make a video with it please ir the black cat od1 a great stackable overdrive fuzz.. I am a rat addict like you but the od 1 it can be even fatter than a rat, with thus beautiful blend of fuzz on it. Dynamism, attack, fuzziness and fatness.. PS the gain should be all the way up. :) With less gain the circuit sounds wooffy and too bassy, given there is no tour knob.

I seem to remember you reboxed your Klon, is this new or did you reinstall it into the old case?

I love how the Klon can be played! Super responsive, a variety of tones within the gain and treble pots. I’m constantly using my foot to adjust the knobs while playing. My favorite pedal.

Jay, can you do a review on the Seymour Duncan P Rails? theyre by far the most versatile pickups ever, in my opinion (no exaggeration), and i'd love to hear your take on them

I found one in London for a good price back in 2017, ummed and aahred for a day, then decided to buy it but already sold. I ended up buying the RYRA version which i think is just as great.
