Alan Rickman is the reason why people love the movie Snape.

Movies portrayed him as "A strict teacher who happens to be an asshole from time to time"
Books portray him as "An asshole who happens to be a strict teacher from time to time."

Don’t forget how Snape had the audacity to call Tonks’ patronus weak because it became Lupin when his patronus became Lily.

Man is so scary that he’s Neville’s worst fear 💀

Actually Voldemort was like "yeah sure buddy, whatever floats your boat" and then Lily argued with him about it for like 5 seconds and he said "the hell with this, Snape will get over it".

Plus the movies really watered down the bullying he did on random ass kids just because they breathed the same air as harry

I think the reasonthey changed it so much is so that his death would actually have more impact. They wanted people to cry when he died, not go "HIP HIP HOORAY! THE BASTARD IS DEAD!!"

Movie Snape was basically just a stern teacher. Book Snape was a whole other animal.

Alan Rickman is endlessly charming and that's the real problem

movie snape was just strict. he had high standards, but only really accosted the students when they did something wrong, like fly a car around London. there’s plenty of redeemable moments within the movies of him making concerned faces & even protecting the students. his “evilness” in the later series is revealed to be part of an agreed-upon plan. book snape, however, is an irredeemable prick who bullied young kids and did everything he could to make their lives hell.

Dumbledore calling Snape a little man is the funniest thing I've heard all day

I think the charisma of Alan Rickman altered how Snape was written

Technically, Voldemort did try to spare Lily, but Lily was like "I WONT LET YOU KILL HARRY! NOT OVER MY DEAD BODY!"

To his credit, Voldemort did try to spare Lily. He gave her multiple chances to step aside, which is what allowed her sacrifice to count while James' didn't. He was going to die that night no matter what, but Lily had a choice. She was just unwaveringly loving to her son, despite how futile it may have seemed in the moment

I love how she actually portrayed the age difference between the book and movie depictions of the character

Dumbledore literally called him pathetic in this scene in the book

The reason why I love Snape is because I watched the movies first then read the books afterwards. I pictured the characters as the actors and it’s just impossible to dislike Alan Rickman’s Snape.

As a book fan, I confirm this is so true.
