The reason why Snape was saving Harry Potter

One of the reasons why Snape was trying to save Harry's life besides doing it for Lily, is because he owed James a life debt. when they were at Hogwarts, James stopped him at the last moment from going to the Shrieking Shack while Remus was in his werewolf form. And Snape never wanted to be in James' debt.

Snape never saw himself as owing James for that. He saw it as James doing the bare minimum for almost getting him killed. It did not make up the years of torment James put him through.

I agree with them. It might be a reason but you know what I think Snape's emotions are complicated like he mainly saved Harry because of his love for his mother. I don't really think he felt for years that he is in debt for James saving him because The Mauraders were the whole reason and James was always bullying Snape so he didn't feel that he was in debt but felt James should have been in debt for bullying him. James simply feared that if Lupin killed Snape, then all suspicion will fall on Mauraders from where Lupin's identity as a werewolf would come out, making him out of school. And James cared for his friends and loved ones, that's why he saved Snape. With this he saved Lupin and got Lily's love. Snape knew this, infact he saved Harry because he loved Lily. James was spoilt rich kid, only thing he was a muggle supporter, and hated Voldemort and Death eaters, making him bully Snape, but changed himself to get Lily as his wife. Ultimately Peter became the traitor, whom James believed as friend, where as Snape tried to save them and died for Harry, even after all ill James did to him.

James bullied and disliked Snape, but I never felt it was personal. I always felt James just hated what Snape stood for and was representing, which was the dark arts. I saw James bullying Snape as him standing up to the evil Snape was choosing to side with.

James saving Snape was a lot of things. For one, I think he genuinely feared for Snape’s life and stopped him from terrible death. He also did not want Lupin to bear the guilt and Sirius to get in deep trouble for immaturely tricking Snape.

To sum it up, James saw it as a terrible thing to happen for everyone involved and stopped it.

There might have been some nobility in Snape saving Harry for James, but for the most part it was for Lily and possibly not wanting James saving his life to hang over his head.

Could be true but there's a big possibility that it isn't. James bullied Snape throughout their hogwarts years. Could be that Snape never considered it a favour from James and hence never thought he "owed" smth to James.
