the movies portrayed Snape's love of Lily really different than the books did too imo. Of course movie fans find it romantic. But in the books he basically thought since she was muggle born she should HAVE to do what he said and that it was a huge slight that another pureblood (James) TOOK her from him

I finally got my hubby to read the books. We use audiobooks and he paused it and yelled "THEY CHANGED THE MOVIE" when snape with messing with Nevile in book 2. His mind was blown. He didnt believe it was that different. I was like wait till u get to Hermione in GOF with Beetle Skeeter 😂. Whats in the jar *shake shake*

But I could relate to Book Snape at times; he writes down the recipes in detail and tells everyone that they have to read them carefully. Harry just doesn't read it and screws it up almost every time. Snape sits there every day with a bunch of students, most of whom have no interest in his subject, don't pay attention and then he has to clean up their mess. And if someone has to say "read carefully, pay close attention" every day and people just don't do it, then maybe you can understand why someone would be bitter after 10 years of teaching... 😅

(of course he often went too far, but I often thought to myself, Harry, just pay attention!) 😅

There was a reason why Neville feared him. He was not a good person. My sister and I read the books together and we never had an impression that he was great. He redeemed some of virtues at the end, but he was petty and distasteful children.
