A modified DCA could be set at 10% increments. TSLA hit a 52 week high at $358.64 and was overvalued so that was the baseline for a weekly DCA. At $322 I increase the DCA, at $284 increase again then at $250 etc.

For something like PLTR that's very overvalued 15 - 20% increments or smaller increases make sense. You don't want your DCAs to eat up all the money you can afford to invest because you'll miss opportunities to buy extra on big discounts.

Luke a question: if there comes a time when a stock is way over priced and the gap between the price and fair value is large, isn’t it wise to sell the stock and take profit and wait for imminent price correction to get in again? I know this is not your strategy and is not mine either. But sometimes I feel I am going against logic!
For example remember Tesla at $400 when you know for sure it will correct. Why not taking profit at that price and wait to buy in more shares when price is lower (considering tax). And if the account is an IRA then there is no capital gain tax either (not for now). Thanks.

Doing a modified DCA after watching Luke and Tom Nash for a couple of years. We buy around $500 each of seven quality stocks (Amazon, Google, Tesla, etc.) and six Fidelity Mutual Funds that follow different markets every month. The modification is that after noticing that there is almost always a market dip every month, I buy for the month the first day of a dip. Been doing this for a year and the DCA buys have averaged 18%. That's including ASML which is down almost 50% for the year. Anyone have any thoughts about ASML?

Sold TSLA in the early weeks of January at 250.08, Bought it back in April at 140.56. It might still go higher further tomorrow, I'm really comfortable with the price I paid, and was not willing to risk having it go higher with me on the sidelines. I also think we have a crash (of some size) coming, but I expect a short hard rise first. Big money wants a chance to sell for a profit. I think that explains the sudden surge in volume today. I guarantee my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Could you do it based on PE. Eg when Tesla around 50 PE that is your standard DCA x1. When PE hits say ~80PE you DCA at x0.75, when Tesla say at PE 40 or lower you DCA x1.5. That is quite a simple way of doing what you are calling the modified DCA. This assumes you think Tesla is fair value at 50 PE.
