Applies to friends and family who THINK they’re the boss of you.

This was a tough one for me. I couldn’t take a ribbing for the longest time. I’m finally old now and things aren’t as serious as I thought they were.
I just wish I would have figured this one out a long time ago. It doesn’t pay to lose it especially in public. Public meltdowns permanently paint you. I didn’t realize this until it was too late.

I quit my last job because my former boss used to thrive off of this. We had 6 receptionists in a space of 4 months and the position is still vacant to date (been seeing LinkedIn posts for the position).

He got an actual kick out of making people cry.

Playing to customers who use bullying tactics in order to get what they want use anger and threats to control the outcome..
It took me years to not mirror or respond to their emotions. I state the facts, inquire what their asking for, offer my assistance and tell them the level of my authority and access to resolve the matter. More importantly, I refrain from engaging or submitting to their threats and insults.
I allow moments of awkward silence which gives them the opportunity to sit their foolish and immature behavior.
I maintain my peace and they have self imposed stress over issues that are easily resolvable.

Reminds me of this amazing book The Four Agreements! One of the agreements that you gotta make with yourself is to not take anything personally 👍

I have been thinking about this exact thing. I don’t want to take everything personal.
Working on it

I had a boss who used to berate the workers and try to get the rest of us involved in it. Whenever he tried this on me I always just said "what?" as if I was so unaware of the situation I couldn't participate.
It worked! 🤣

I would love to hear this as a whole message

I have literally seen people at work toy with people just to get them in their feelings. Then once the person gets mad they make it seem like that person is trippin or violent

This is exactly I needed to hear, I was just upset with something my boss said today. And in my head I was thinking sometimes I should just chose to ignore and not affect my feelings

I've learned this. I refuse to play games at work.

Practice indifference, it's your superpower.

In the first place your boss is not your friend !..when ever they ask you how it going at home just say" good and walk away ...they are trying to figure out your weakness and what kind of bills you pay so the more you are in depth the more the more they feel they have control over you... just change it up on them talk about the weather, Traffic and food nothing personal 🤫
