It's called a yoke, not a steering wheel. Airplanes aren't "steered" in the sky, however it's steered on the ground. And he's not a co-pilot, he's the flight instructor. Also, landing is not at all "gut instinct" that the aircraft will touch the ground. You the pilot put it on the runway. You fly the plane, the plane doesn't fly you.

4:43 You can see that your instructor certainly had most of the control on landing in order to make the aircraft flare on touchdown, they ALWAYS do with brand new students.

Sorry, I realise that you are not knee deep in aviation but for future reference please do not call it the "steering wheel" it is a Yoke. Or if is just a stick then it is a Control Stick/Centre Stick either is fine. Sorry if I seem like a bit of a bitch.
