Why hasn’t LTT used the Steam Deck as a comparison point in its most recent videos about video game handhelds? Ft. The ROG Ally X.

Considering how everyone else trying to copy the steam deck in their own way and blowing up in their faces. Yes...

Price to performance shows without a doubt it is still relevant

Linus gets to live with hardware every day of his life. For most users Steam Deck is still the best on the market, especially for price to performance. The answer is absolutely yes and will be for the foreseeable future.

It's not up to devs' refusal to "support" Linux. Its up to devs' willingness not to intentionally block Linux users from playing their games now. That's the only thing stopping Linux gaming now.

After the GN video, I would still rather take my dual booted 512GB Steam Deck over the Asus.

Steam Deck 1% lows are godly. Especially on lower power TDPs compared to its competition. Like there's really no competition if you actually want battery life

Track pads! Not enough people seem to bring up trackpads! Steamdeck is just so easy to use on point and click games. Having to use a joystick as your mouse is *garbage*

They are trying to make the Index 2 the best VR headset ever, because they know they won't ever release an Index 3

Is the Steam Deck Still Relevant... watching this on my Steam Deck

Until windows handhelds can be priced as competitively ($350 Deck vs $699 Ally), have the same battery life (2-10 hours Deck vs 1-4 hours Ally), while maintaining the same hardware quality (SD card Ally issue) and polished software experience (windows battery drain + poor UI scaling). Yeah, I think everyone's confident the Steam Deck will stay relevant.

Steam Deck is still the best handheld on the market

given the shit ASUS is pulling that GN brought to light, I'd say it's still pretty relevant

I think linus sometimes is a little out of touch with reality he is too exposed to high end tech, that doesnt experience the actual benefits, steam deck experience even if is the same hardware, is totally different from what it was 6 months ago... the software upgrades are incredible

I think the Deck reaches a really good balance between the console experience and the flexibility of a PC. You "can" mess around with things, add third party apps and stores, mod your games, adjust graphics sliders, etc., but you also have a gaming optimized OS that isn't secretly installing "recommended" software in the background or any other nonsense and allows you, if you want to, to just hit install and play your damned games.

Funny tuning into LTT videos and hearing Linus say how much he values being on Windows over Linux, I'm sat here thinking I wouldn't mind the extra power of an Ally or whatever but I'd hate to have to figure out how to make it run Linux cause ain't no way I'm having a Windows handheld

I think the reason Valve isn't releasing SteamOS on its own MIGHT be because of Nvidia's shortcomings on Linux. Especially with something called Wayland. For non-Linux people, it's basically a graphical backend that the entirety of the Linux community is **slowly** transitioning towards. Due to Nvidia having spotty compatibility with certain features within Wayland, (I'm skipping a lot of details here because it gets VERY inside baseball) but I can imagine Valve wants to wait until Nvidia gets off its ass and finally fixes compatibility. It makes sense that they want to make sure the experience is as absolutely seamless as possible on both AMD and Nvidia cards. Thankfully this is actually happening soon! The Nvidia update is supposed to happen sometime around early June so I would like to think that Valve will work out their own OS and build those systems before they fully release a desktop version of SteamOS. I know I'll be making a few videos whenever it drops!
So the Desktop SteamOS might be closer than we think!

The answer is yes... I absolutely love the Steam Deck OLED I have.

I'd love to think workers at valve come up to upper management like "hey boss, I got a great idea" and the boss just goes "does it cost less than a bajillion dollars?" and if the answer is yes they just go "sure, go ahead"

I am extremely biased because my Steam Deck is my primary handheld and desktop machine. I moved to Germany and haven't been able to take a fair bit of my tech with me. So the Steam Deck has allowed me to keep the vast majority of my library with me. I also partitioned the drive to run windows so I could get a no compromises Epic Game Store experience on it (I spent 5 weeks trying to get the kingdom hearts series running on the linux side and just couldn't do it). But even so, that is a pro for the Steam Deck. It is customizable enough and user friendly enough that I can modify it like a PC. Plus, I think having the brand name of Valve and Steam on a product actually does a lot for a consumer.

Doesn't sound like you've used a steam deck, no one has been able to emulate the touch pads and gyro controls, that's actually my favourite part about the deck; the trackpads open up so much possibility in payable genres on a mobile device!
