Slight correction: Spotify/Netflix/Discord apps can be installed on the Deck, but more to my point, YMWV for a lot of features - which is much less a concern on Windows.

Spotify has a Linux app that's supposedly not supported my the company but made out of love by some devs working there?

Netflix does not have an officially supported Linux native app. 3rd party and browser surely exists, but at that point I'm good.

Discord works, but can be temperamental with some features from what I'm reading - especially hopping between desktop and console mode.

The thing that gets me about all these Steam Deck competitors is none of them actually compete on the touchpads and controller layout customization. All other things being roughly equal, that stands out to me. There are lots of games in my steam library that are not controller compatible and the addition of the touchpads make them portable on a deck.

I feel that paying 800 bucks for a handheld is a clear quality of life downgrade.

$800 for a handheld gaming device? Hell nah. Also, Asus handhelds are known for their internal design flaws so you never know how long your device will last.
If u got money then go for it. Who am I to tell you what you should buy or what you shouldn’t lol.

The biggest problem is that at $800 you might was well look into an actual gaming laptop which will get you more performance and a bigger screen and more functional use than this thing does.

Don't want to bash the video but it id heavily based around windows. As somebody that dual boots windows and steam os on my steam deck just wanted to point out that technically you can run all those apps on the deck since you can install windows on it.

One of my favourite feature on Steam Deck is sleep/resume.

Remeber the steam deck is supported by valve and the steam store so it will always be cheaper theb all the other handheld computers and won't need a revision EVERY YEAR.
