My steam deck OLED is by far the best device i have ever purchased. My gaming life was dying due to a hectic life, the steam deck has Saved my gaming "career " 😅

"the Steam Deck could not replace my switch" as he plays a switch game with switch joy-cons on his Steam Deck.

Emulation is not illegal. Please don't spread myths. Litigation comes from piracy, which is not the same as emulation.

I'm taking my first vacation in a decade and this just sold me on the OLED deck for the trip, cheers!

Finally I was waiting for someone to genuinely explain how versatile this device is. Thank you.

Just so you know, emulation is not illegal. In case of Yuzu, they were using some stolen code from Nintendo Switch SDK, sharing roms in their Discord and selling early access to their updated version of emulator that supported new Legend of Zelda. Those 3 illegal activities made up for a juicy lawsuit. That being said, emulation alone is totally legal and that was confirmed in court back in 90's when Bleem! got sued by Sony for emulating their console. As long as you dump your own disc images, it's totally legal.

I've had the Steam Deck since the beginning. Upgraded to an OLED and a 2TB drive right when it was announced. As a dad, I got sucked into playing gacha games on my phone. If only the Steam Deck came out sooner, I might have saved thousands from those gacha games!

This was such a good breakdown, I really appreciated your comparison of the LCD and OLED by giving your friend a test. The LCD went on sale so I've been trying to do research on which is more suitable and this helped me decide :)

100 games? Those are rookie numbers. Gotta pump these numbers up!

I have the LCD deck. Ever since the update that allows you to change the vibrancy and color temperature, I've enjoyed the screen a lot more. It's much less washed out seeming.

As you said, I feel like without a pc a window based handheld would be the way to go. But having a pc, the deck is such a chill thing to use. I can use my pc for more heavy games and my steam deck for indies. And the battery gives me like 6 hours on those smaller indie games, it's amazing.

I got my steam deck by complete coincidence. When they first came out my dad had bought one for himself and told me he bought one off his friend because they bought one out of their budget.

Me and my dad do have PC's so we don't use them as often, but i like to bring my steamdeck when I'm on trips.

We both got the LCD ones since the OLED wasn't out at the time, and we didn't see a point in upgrading if we didn't use them as often. Either way it's still very enjoyable to use! They are definitely much better for smaller games as it lasts longer, however you can still play something like baldurs gate if u don't have a gaming PC ❤ just know you'll probably need a battery pack lol

I purchased the 64GB LCD variant at launch. Best purchase I have ever made. I upgraded to a 1TB SSD after 1½ year, complementary to the 512GB SD-card I used and I have gotten so much enjoyment out of the device. I play on it everyday and even though the OLED is around. I can't justify the upgrade since the LCD is quite honestly "so good". The screen gets WAY too much hate online. Sure color range is a bit small, but in most games you can just crank up the vibrancy to mitigate that without any real loss in detail. It is super bright at 550ntis (not 400nits like Valve says), resulting in a screen that is often set to 50%: 250nits. At least for me as I am often playing indoors in a lit room. In that scenario the black-levels are WAY more black than the OG Switch. I mean, think about it, when you go to a cinema in a dark room they only light it up the screen to ~50nits... now imagine 550nits in a low-light indoor scenario. It think that's where the "glow" complaints come from. People have their brightness cranked up way too high, completely disregarding adjusting brightness depending on surrounding light.

If you're a Linux fanboy like me, this with the Steam Deck Dock can just replace your computer.

I just traded my Vita for a Ayn Odin Pro threw a 265gb memory card in there and now have more N64 & PSP games than I can count. They all play amazing. Best trade of my life so far
