In this episode, we take a closer look at the only two pieces of physical evidence to come out of the Amityville Horror investigation, which took place on March 6, 1976. Two photographs; one said to be the appearance of a saint, the other is claimed to be the ghost of nine-year-old John DeFeo. We'll break down these photos, look at the available information, and even do some comparisons of our own.

The little boy photo is Paul Bartz who accompanied the Warren's the night of the seance. He basically admitted it a years ago.

The Amityville Boy, If you look closely, the eyes do not light up, it is a reflection of light on glasses that the person is wearing .

Padre Pio in the antlers? Pfft, ridiculous. Any rationally minded person can clearly see she was actually visited by Abe Lincoln.

I love intelligent debunking videos; thank you!

About the glowing eyes:
when my daughter was young [and couldn’t figure out how to time her face for photos (open your eyes… now; smile… now)] her body’s version of red-eye was golden-eye.

We now have a lovely collection of family pics featuring 3 wide-eyed kids and one beautiful golden-eyed girl.
Good times.

Just another theory although your nickel pictures are most compelling. Seriously, who would have thought that would work?!
Your wife is one smart lady!

In the early 1980s I was friends with the people who bought that house (Barbara & Jim Cromarty, who also owned Islip Speedway and Riverhead Raceway) and we all knew it was just a dumb hoax.

All the same Entire family was murdered there...Very creepy

The murders of the DeFeo family is more fascinating than the hoax. The overkill on Dawn, the bodies all found in the same positions, idk just weird.

That's really important insight, that they claim these things happen but didn't bother to take a photo or video of it, and that they had access to video and camera. Wouldn't that be one of the first things they would think to do after getting over the shock of their toilet turning black, the door and banister being ripped out. Maybe they wouldn't have thought to have grabbed the camera while it was happening, but at least afterwards.

If I’d bought that house I wouldn’t have said it was haunted it knocks down the resale. But why did people buy it remodel then sell at a loss? I have heard a few times at least one family who owned it later did say they had strange things happen in the house but they kept it quiet until it was sold. I don’t think we will ever know the truth. To many lies have been told on both sides.

According to George Lutz, the “Ghostie Boy” photograph wasn’t discovered until a few years later, when he was choosing pictures for an Amityville picture book he was planning to put together, and his assistant, who was pregnant at the time, was helping him. It was because she felt the baby moving every time she picked up that particular photo, that they got intrigued and decided to take a closer look, finding then the strange figure peeking out of the door. So according to this, the Warrens sent Lutz all the photographic material taken that night, March 6th, 1976, but never noticed anything out of the ordinary. It’s actually a cool story, but fictional. It’s hard to believe no one noticed something like that from the beginning, when the pictures were being processed.

Love this. The nickel effect is absolutely horrifying! I did a little bit of study into the history of photo manipulation as a kid because I always loved the creepy photos that people would use to claim a haunting (double exposures, faulty film, etc.), and I may have an even simpler explanation for the eye effect for you. What I learned was that before we had photoshop, manipulations were sometimes just painted directly onto a print using oil paints, then the manipulated print was photocopied or photographed a second time (so that the manipulation was absolutely within the "original" copy sent out). This could very well just be two tiny dollops of white paint applied with a fine brush and magnifying glass, such as one many people have attached to their workbench lamps.

I do believe in haunted houses because I lived in one for 11 years! Not sure if I believe in the Amityville horror. So many weird goings on behind the book deal. But one of Kathy’s sons said in a series of documentaries made about the true story behind the house, that George was involved in some pretty dark things like owning books on satanism. The documentary is really good and gives a lot of info! Easy to find on YouTube.

I've experienced things in my life several times. Thank God they have stopped. It has always been my gut feeling the Lutz' story was malarkey.

I don't believe Ronnie killed all of them, the version of the story that makes the most sense is one where Dawn and her boyfriend killed the parents then Dawn Killed the kids to eliminate the witnesses. When Ronnie found out what Dawn had done, he killed her. So I believe Ronnie only killed Dawn and he spent the rest of his life in prison unjustly convicted until his death in March of 2021. Dawn was kind of a miscreant who had been trying to get friends and boyfriends to kill her dad so she couild run away to Florida. I think she finally succeeded but Ronnie stopped her from achieving her ultimate goal. Ithink this story is the only one ultimately with the ring of truth.
