Kerchak coulda killed all 3 without breaking a sweat. Tarzan simply helped to keep this a PG movie.

Now that im older I realize that Kerchak was right at the end of the day. He died trying to protect his family. Tarzan kept putting his family at risk and he wasn't listening. The Goriilas didn't deserve or want to encounter the humans just because they took him in.

Why wasn't Kerchak more specific earlier when Tarzan said "Why are you threatend by anyone different from you?" Kerchak should have taught Tarzan about stranger danger. Tarzan would understand.

Well kerchak was basically right as Clayton was about to shoot that gorilla that stole his shotgun and his plans with the rest of the apes

As a kid I thought Kerchak was a bit of a bum-hole. Now as an adult, I see he's just an Alpha-Gorilla. He's skitish, and lots of animals aren't trusting, and very xenophobic to other species'. He was relatively patient with Tarzan, even when 'Zan was just a boy. He'd never harm him, just resent him. But still accepted him as part of his' troop. Even here we see he's not trying to Harm Tarzan, but get him out of the way so he can go ape on Clayton, which to Kerchaks credit, Clayton didn't show signs of submission, and was holding a foreign object (gun), the gun was loud, so the gorilla charge wasn't halted.
Then we see clayton make a "I'll get you later..." type of vengeful look humans do. With preptime, humans are like batman and can kill superbeasts. It was only a matter of time. I don't blame Tarzan, he's a lonely, alienated boy who finally found out about fellow humans, but was too pure and naive for people like Clay or most modern humans.

Jane or D. Porter are good eggs, I wish they spent more time with Kerchak atleast...
