They did an amazing job with this scene. Probably the saddest Disney death.

Kerchak finally accepted him as his son and a member of the Gorillas even in his dying breath.

Aw man, it’s beautiful to see that Tarzan was finally excepted by my boy Kerchak. Kerchak isn’t really a bad guy, it was just really hard for him to get used to his son’s death. Kinda like how people don’t wanna replace their dog when they die.

Kerchak's death is the saddest Disney death for several reasons:

Kerchak is the only character we see literally die in a Disney movie unless you count Beast though he revives.

Kala lost her biological baby at the beginning of the film and now her mate to two villains Sabor & Clayton respectively.

Kerchak wanted Tarzan to forgive him for his attitude towards him and for not seeing him as his adopted son until he died.

And this scene is also bittersweet because while he dies, he simultaneously reunites with his biological son in the afterlife and knows his tribe will be in good hands with Tarzan.

I can relate to this.
A month ago my dad passed away after a brave battle with leukemia.
We didn't get along very well and we constantly fought. He would tell me on several occasions that I was useless because I didn't meet his expectations, and over time we grew apart for years.

But in his last days we got closer again and expressed what was in our hearts. I never hated him. I understood that he wanted me to be better but he didn't know how to express it or how to show me love. Beyond buying me things, he was quite cold and temperamental.

But there is something he told me that stuck with me: "If I offended you in any way, forgive me. I haven't been a good father, but I'm very proud of the man you have become. Take care of your family and be better than I was. I love you so much, son."

What's really sad is all the time Tarzan and Kerchak missed as father and son

It's crazy to think that kerchak finally accepted Tarzan as part of the family, his son. In his final moments.

Kerchak really had a sad life.
Even though Kerchak dies, at least he finally found peace.

It was beautiful when Tarzan realized that his true family was in the jungle and returned when Clayton attacked them.

😢😢😢😢😢 Siempre lloro con esta parte. Es como si Tarzan hubiera perdido otra vez a su padre. Ahora se reunirá con su pequeño gorila.

0:00-0:07 pause and look at their expressions you can play out what they were planning on saying to each other when Jane walked over to him that's true love

Like Mufasa with Simba or Youndu with Peter Quill in Gardians of the Galaxy 2, Kerchak sacrifices him-self for Tarzan, he saved him of Clayton who would to kill Tarzan

Honestly Kerchak has no right to call him son when he wasn’t even being a father to him at all. When I was a kid I was happy he called him that.
