Fun fact: in the actual book series, Tarzan’s ape father is was named Tublat while the evil rival was named Kerchak.
Tublat in the books acted much like Kerchak in the movie, a resentful father who didn’t see Tarzan as his son, except Tublat’s outcome is a lot more tragic.
Book’s Kerchak is still the leader of the apes but he’s a tyrant and a violent leader who lashes out unpredictably. He’s also the one responsible for killing Tarzan’s human father (his human mother dies of natural causes). And Tarzan avenges his human dad and kills Kerchak.
Yeah, the books are a lot darker when you read them.

Even though Kerchak was cold to Tarzan when he was a kid, I can tell that he knew if Tarzan or anyone else never interfered he would’ve died. So Kerchak must’ve felt grateful for Tarzan on the inside.

Keith David's portrayal of Tublat is pretty cool! And to think he's known as the voice of Spawn in "Spawn The Animated Series" and in MK11!😃😄

Tublat gave me the idea what an evil Kong be like before Skar King came along but I used to imagine my original evil Kong to be a grey Gorilla with scars and a missing toe
