Slow paced breathing at the right frequency can result in a vagal nerve activation, which may have a variety of beneficial effects.

Isn’t that mind-blowing? What’s happens in vagus need not stay in vagus :)

Thanks for watching. I hope you’ll join in the evidence-based nutrition revolution!

Would you please do a follow up video that's actually in a guided tutorial format. Like, "Breath in now, 2, 3..." Thanks!

There's a Taiwanese old man practicing the turtle breathing for years and he is very healthy and young for his age. Breathing helps.

I discovered the Wim Hof Method just a few weeks ago. And now I see this! His breathing method is mostly just what you said! And I can truly say: it's insane!

I practice freediving or apnea. In this sport we breath in for say 4 seconds, then exhale slowly for 8 seconds (1:2 ratio) This drops the hearbeat down considerably and im sure affects the blood pressure too. After practicing in the morning I find I am notably more relaxed, tranquil and calm. We do this to be able to hold are breath for longer periods of time while diving underwater.

When I got hiccups as a kid I'd just hold my breath, works every time. These days I do Ashtanga yoga in the morning, so that and this episode might explain why I rarely have them these days.

What is also interesting is the opposite of slow breathing. If you breathe in and out really fast for about 1/2 min, you can trick your body to store oxygen, I think. Try this in a pool swimming laps underwater. Try it before quick breathing and after. You will be amazed at how many more laps you can swim underwater. I went from 1 lap to 7 or 8. Not gonna improve your health but it is interesting to know you can do this.

I can't remember the name of the study or the Doctor who performed it, but he took people off the street, had them visualize a Pac Man (from the video game in the 80's) eating the Cancer Cells in the body (or bad cells), then measured the white cell count after. They would go up dramatically, indicating the Immune Response. . .

Anyone know who the Doctor was?
