My 100 y.o. neighbour was born in Ikaria, Greece. Irena turned 100 last November 2021. She has lived in Australia for the last 35 years. Irena does her own cooking, shopping and cleaning. Her father lived till his death at 107 on Ikaria. She has nephews who own a hotel in Ikaria, on the land that belonged to her father. Her father would have lived longer except, unfortunately was overcome by fumes from a lamp.

These blue zone people. They don’t know what they do to live so long. Most of them are peasants. They just do what they’ve done and there parents and grandparents have done for years.
Ignorance is bliss. And contentment is a blessing.

I live in Australia, after emigrating from the UK (England) 40 years ago. I am now 73 and have one question.
I both countries you qualify for an aged pension at 65 years of age. How can we get the governments on side, to legislate against the actions of the supermarket giants, fast food outlets and food manufacturers, to provide guaranteed ‘healthy’ foods to cover even 50% of their saleable products, when it is in the government's interest for you to retire at 65 and be buried at 66 years of age?
Living for a further 10 to 15 years longer is a nightmare scenario that would keep politicians awake at night.

I live in the Nicoya area & the elders here eat meat their rice & beans. The beef here is grass fed & without hormones & antibiotics. Fast food is not eaten, chickens are "free range" & many people raise their own pigs or know someone to buy from. Basically, things are still fairly pure air, organic vegetables. The expression here is 🌻Pura Vida are you?" "Pura Vida" "How did your trip go?" 🌻 Pura Vida 🌻 " Ticos live in the present

Somehow I associate the Aspen Institute w The Kochs. Because of corporate rule, we've destroyed most of the world diet, not to mention the environment. For us to be able to eat "blue zone, " where do we get the pesticide, carcinogen free food? All of our corn is Monsanto GMO. Corporate greed has to stop. We can easily find the ways to promote longevity, but not under our current system that puts profit above people.

Aspen Colorado is a great place to be in since the air is probably cleaner. 1 in 10 in our planet now die from air pollution. Being in a more rural area will minimize exposure to chemicals. Not retiring also helps people live longer. Being part of a community like the seventh day adventist church helps. Having lots of close friends also helps. The healthy eating pattern seems to be cheap unrefined staple foods and vegetables. The Greek islands and Italy islands ate whole grain bread (unfermented or sourdough fermented). It is hard to replicate their diet bec they have hundreds of wild plants. Okinawa ate mostly sweet potato, purple sweet potato and vegetables. Japanese also eat lots of wild plants. If want to eat healthy, the best thing to do is actually to avoid eating in restaurants. The animal products industries are very powerful so those following plant based diets will probably remain at 1%.

Very nice - loved the story of the Greek National that came to US and went back and cancer was gone based on living a healthy lifestyle. BTW not all drink!!!! Seventh-day Adventist’s don’t! It is not the alcohol, it is the resveretrol in the grape that prevents cancer.
