Let me know if there is a guitar you REALLY regret selling!

Most every guitar or amp I've lost was in pawn, in younger years had a "substance " problem then later with family emergencies. Each time I accepted a fraction what they were worth, with the logic being "easier to buy back". With the earlier problem I knew I wasn't coming back . Later times I fully intended to get stuff back. Can't change the past but can control future choices. Been clean for 28 years.

My Grandpa passed in February. Last month his current wife told me she needed to sell his Strat. I didn't want it to go to just anyone so I sold my 68 Ovation Tornado(which itself had a good amount of sentimental value) so I could buy it. I'm OK with the sacrifice but I never would have sold that guitar for any other reason.

Not sold but given away. When I was moving back home after living in Osaka for almost a decade, I had too many guitars to take with me. I've missed the one I left behind, an MIJ all-black Tele with gold hardware (TLG80-55) ever since. I *could* go back and get it - the friend I gave it to would only accept it if he was just taking care of it for me until I returned. But had it for about 3 years and he's had it for 21, so it really belongs to him now.

Hi Darrell. Thank you for your channel. I'm a huge fan... So to answer your question... In 1969, aged 15, I bought for £8 (GBP) plus an Eko acoustic, an early 60's Burns Vibra-Sonic Artist from a friends elder brother. The guitar featured Burns Tri-Sonic pickups so beloved of Brian May, and a Bigsby like vibrato. The neck was the optional slimline 24 fret neck finished in gloss black and rosewood fretboard. I played lead with it in a youthful Shadows band in 1969 and 1970, and I learned Purple Haze on it too! I was a huge Hendrix fan... Well, that band broke up in 1970 and I wanted a Stratocaster like my hero, so I sold it to a rival band lead guitarist who used it as a spare until 1971 when it got irrepairably broken after a gig. I've had a few guitars since, but not one that I could play as well. I think the neck just suited me, and the pick-ups zinged through the valve amp I had at the time. I wish I still had it!
So that's the one I let go. Here's one I should have bought... About 20 years ago I was offered a Gretsch Firebird by a work colleague. Just like a Duo-Jet, but red. I played it and loved it, but I didn't want a Les Paul clone, and still don't, despite my PRS single-cut I bought last year! That Firebird just spoke to me. I can't remember the price, but it was realistic at the time, but I felt expensive for an old guitar despite it's excellent condition. I still have photos of it... Anyway that was one I didn't own, but regret letting it get away.
Cheers, David

Wow, thanks for bringing me back to times that I've tried to forget! Out of the 70 or so guitars I've sold over 40 years, the ones I miss most:
- Vantage VS600 (first guitar I owned; didn't realize how good it was)
- Samick Blues Saraceno TV-20
- Peavey Wolfgang
- Schecter C-1 Classic
- 90's ESP Horizon
If I still had these, my collection would be complete! I will never EVER sell any of my Ibanez S-Prestige guitars!

My dad had an ESP super Strat from the early 90s when he was in his early adult years and with his first 2 bands. He loved that guitar a lot, but he had to sell it and his amplifier (a peavey 5150) around 1998 to be able to pay for college. When he went to buy another one a few years later, it turned out that the model he had was extremely difficult to find. It took nearly 25 years, but we finally managed to track one down again and he loves it just as much as he did when he used to have it :)

These I sold prior to go to Vietnam, 59 les paul, 67 Silvertone with amp built into the case, 65 strat and Tele. I was not sure I would make it home. Never thought about how they would be worth today.

Your videos keep me up. Your smile is infectious. My girl and I used to watch your videos together, now it's just me. Thank you bro.

Being a hoarder makes this problem obsolete. I never sold any of my guitars.

I _did_ sell a second hand Hohner B2 headless bodyless bass (whose active electronics had already died and which did not play too well either) once, and when I felt nostalgic for that paddle, I just got myself a brand new Steinberger Spirit instead, because that is the instrument that the Hohner merely cloned. So: no, I don't regret losing the poor man's version and replacing it with the original.

I once _tried_ to *give* away a (quite rare) upgraded Starfield KS to a friend when I got my JEM jr, because I thought I would never need it again, as I considered the Ibanez the superior shred axe. Then that friend concluded that he did not really have time to play guitar any more and gave it back to me, so I gave it to another guitar-playing friend, who returned it when he got himself a Les Paul clone because he is just not a Strat guy. So having come back to me twice, I rewarded my Starfield with a Vega trem upgrade and now find that it shreds slightly _better_ than my JEM. I am never giving this axe away again.

I sold a beautiful sunburst ‘64 Strat that I regret whenever I think about it (the sale did finance a year in LA chasing my dream…) I also sold a ‘61 Les Paul Jr I found in a pawn shop…the last I’ll mention is a double cut Tele that came out of the Fender custom shop…I want them back! I’m surprised to hear you’re not a vintage guitar guy; nothing like a pre-CBS Strat

1961 P Bass that I bought from a coworker in the early 1980s. Sunburst finish was completely gone and he had painted it with house paint using a brush. I stripped it to bare wood, except for the pickup cavity where the original paint was still intact. Played it for maybe 12 years and sold it at a guitar show.
Second regrettable sell was a 1959 Telecaster...absolutely one of the lightest Teles I'd ever held. Didn't have much money invested in it and sold it for a good profit to buy parts and accessories for my Harley...

Last year I sold my Harley Benton CST24 I've been regretting it ever since. So I bought a CST24 kit and I'm in the process of putting it together as we speak. Just waiting on the Grover tuners I ordered for it. Can't wait to jam on another CST24. Great video.... really enjoyed your list.

My first guitar was an Epiphone S800 or something like that (one of those S series) that my mom bought me new in the mid 80s. It was a super strat. Had a Pearl white sparkleish finish. It got lost during one of my many moves in my 20s. I just hope who ever ended up with it enjoyed it.

It's OK Darrell. I feel that way with all of my past ones.

Gretschs are really cool looking guitars. Never had the pleasure to play one, but everything I've seen and heard I've liked

An early 90’s Charvel Surfcaster, quilted maple top in green burst finish with a humbucker in the bridge. Sold it to get cash to buy a Marshall JVM. Still have the Marshall, so no regrets there, but that Surfcaster was such a unique guitar…wish I’d kept it!

I've never gotten rid of an instrument, I honestly don't think I could... and man, your video about that Ibanez S Series was instrumental in my acquisition of my own S Series!! it's not a Prestige but plays amazing nonetheless!

The one I regret not keeping was my first guitar a Cort strat copy. Just the nostalgia of my original
