Fun fact, even if you get caught by the guards for pickpocketing Dorian afterwards, only like 10 or so gold counts as stolen, so you can keep all the gold you manifested

Jist a tip for fellow Oblivion noobies like myself, be sure to talk to the high elf Carahil at the main desk of the mages guild and ask to join. This way you're given the key and aren't spending all your lockpicks trying to get up the stairs 😅
