Yes, I'm taking a little break from my current Crysis map, Hongzhou Harbor, and I'm heading out in the woods of Cyrodiil instead. It's nothing special, really, it's just me walking the country side. Enjoy the vid!

Everything is just so vibrant. Perfect atmosphere, soundtracks. I'll never forget this game, that's why maybe I keep coming back to this video. Miss playing it tons. Sigh memories

Oh my god. I heard the soundtrack in the background, and I was instantly hit my an arrow of nostalgia. It's so long ago I played oblivion, I can't even remember most of it, but when I heard the music and heard the sound of the trees, I was about to cry. I feel like I just got a sweet touch of a forgotten childhood. I can remember all of it now. All the quests, all the soundtracks, all the locations... from nothing but the sound of the game... I love bethesda...

This game was able to harmonize all aspects of an RPG that make it great. The music, atmosphere, HUD, landscape, questing journal, and overall feel of the game played off of each other to an outstanding degree.

Skyrim, on the other hand, was not as immersive as Oblivion because certain elements did not feel like they fit the game very well. Even though the inventory system was far superior to Oblivions in terms of navigation, the artistic design felt incongruent with the style of the game.

Oblivion had this folklore/old world theme to it, and the visual elements had complimented that. If you don't know what I'm talking about, compare the loading screens of Oblivion to that of Skyrim, and you'll feel a huge difference.

This game is so nostalgic to me. It wasn't even one of the first games I've ever played like I started playing it in 09 after countless other games but this one stuck with me so hard.

It's so weird how time can change my perception of an experience. I remember playing Oblivion in 2006 and becoming completely consumed by it. I thought it was more real than the real world. Looking at it now, the graphics and animation look like an unfinished student project

I hope in Elder Scrolls 6 they mix the graphics of Oblivion and Skyrim. I really like Skyrim's detail but Oblivion's vibrant colors make the world look more 'fantasy'.

Even Skyrim cant defeat atmosphere of Oblivion. I like Skyrim very much but Oblivion atmosphere is very unique. Every game from Bethesda is special because of its unique atmosphere.

To put it simply;

TES IV (Oblivion): Had the most captivating soundtrack and atmospheric gameplay.

TES V (Skyrim): Had the best game mechanics for realism.

Hard to believe all these comments which say Oblivion's graphics suck... I personally love them. I played Skyrim first, had incredible memories with it and it's just one of my favourite games ever. To me, everything in it is perfect, even though it's very flawed. But that's what subjectivity is about; one's own feelings. And my own feelings about the game say that it's perfect, despite its obvious imperfections (e.g. repetitive voice actors, many of your decisions do not affect the game, the game is too easy; you are told where you have to go, you are a meaningless character the vast majority of the time despite your high status), and to me it's just the best Elder Scrolls game out there.

However... putting feelings and emotional attachments aside, Oblivion is just the better game. Skyrim is superior in certain aspects (e.g. graphics, level-up system) but Oblivion is so much more superior in most aspects. The story-telling, the quests are AMAZING, the graphics aren't as good as Skyrim's but they are stunning nonetheless, and even if for today's standards they aren't great (still decent, however), what it lacks in graphics it absolutely makes up in atmosphere. Skyrim's atmosphere is beautiful; I actually loved the grim, dark atmosphere. Some parts of the region are colourful and gorgeous, but it's generally grim and dark, which Bethesda managed to craft beautifully too. However, Oblivion has snow too, beautiful snow; but it is so diverse in its environment. Mountains, forests, valleys, beaches, ponds; perhaps it's just the fact Cyrodiil is a much richer region than Skyrim landscape wise, but Oblivion simply has a better atmosphere as a game.

The quests are more realistic and immersive; Skyrim has good quests but they get repetitive and boring after a while. I'll admit they are what drove me off from the game... exploring is great, but it gets a little tiring after a while. The guilds in Oblivion were more realistic and just fantastic, the more you progressed the more fame and reputation you gained; the quests are genuine for a guild and they aren't personal unlike in Skyrim. The Thieves Guild main quest is about chasing a traitor, the Companions main quest is about killing the Silverhands; it's ALL personal. And these quests are fine, but they're short and nothing happens even after you're the Thieves Guild Master or the Harbinger. You're still irrelevant, it's not very immersive. In Oblivion it was. It's a more gradual process towards leadership, in Skyrim you're just bossed around by everyone and then suddenly you're the leader, but still barely anyone gives a shit about you.

There's still a lot, but I'll leave it at that. I think many people who played Skyrim first will close their minds to try Oblivion... which is stupid. But it's also stupid many veteran TES players just say Skyrim is "shit" or it "sucks" or it's a "bad game". Not a bad game. Great, to be honest; it just didn't live up to its predecessors, though it was superior in some aspects.

As complex and amazing as this game was, and it is pretty much my favorite game ever created- Mass Effect took breathing realism to a whole new level in 2007, albeit in a linear fashion. I thought Skyrim should have adopted the Mass Effect way of interacting with npcs, both in the camera angles and the hierarchy of options. The npcs were up close and personal like in Oblivion, but also not fixed to one static pose.
