He Hasn’t Slept Since 1962 (Doctors Don’t Know Why)

MEET THE SLEEPLESS MAN OF VIETNAM (Yes, it's true!!) This is one of the most surreal stories I’ve ever told you in my 7-year career as a YouTuber, and I can’t wait for you to watch it!

I first heard about Mr. Thai Ngoc many years ago, and I never knew it would be possible to find him because his location has never been revealed.

Mr. Ngoc claims that he hasn’t slept a wink since 1962 (the year my dad was born) - seriously! Some people think it could be PTSD from the war, while others believe that he has an extremely rare medical condition. Whatever the case is, I traveled 2 days from Arizona to a small village in South Vietnam to track him down, stay up all night with him, and see if it was actually true that he doesn’t sleep.

What I discovered is astonishing. Comment below your thoughts if you think it's true or false, based on my experience. I'd love to hear from you!

This story was such an adventure! And so much fun to shoot! But I want to know your honest thoughts after watching... Do you think he really hasn't slept since 1962? Or do you think he sleeps on occasion? Would love to hear from you in the comments here!

80+ drinking, smoking, no sleep... this man's life is a middle finger to all the lifestyle health gurus.

This is definitely severe insomnia caused by PTSD, unfortunately it's not that uncommon actually. He likely experiences 'micro-sleep' quite often (this lasts only several seconds to minutes typically), he said he is able to sleep for about 2 hours if he drinks enough alcohol to stop thinking, that confirms that it's directly PTSD related. He likely developed a fear of sleeping/being unconscious during the war.

I personally have experienced a full week of no sleep several times because of my own PTSD, the only reason I was unable to sleep was fear, any time I'd get close to sleeping even the smallest sound, movement or thought would have my heart jumping out of my chest, for that reason I started preferring to keep myself busy at night.
The fear that's keeping you awake with this kind of PTSD is either the night terrors experienced when sleeping or the fear of a repeat of your traumatic experience. In my case it was mostly fear of someone coming into my home to commit violence on me as that is what happened to me.
I still am an insomniac, though I've had some improvement, I feel really bad for this man because I know how exhausting and uncomfortable it is to sleep this little for extended periods of time.

In reality this man probably knows exactly why he can't sleep but it's too painful to confront head on himself, so he copes through addictions and distractions, it is typical severe PTSD.

Man has three houses, where nature is his front and backyard, has a wife that cooks fresh killer dishes daily, he drinks, smokes, super chill, super productive. This man is not only super human, he's rich in more ways than one.

“Can you believe it took me 3 total days of travel time to find him?”
Actually, I’d say finding a man based on a name and picture in flooded Vietnam while starting from Arizona is borderline miraculous 😂… 3 days is super fast.

Measured by the man’s waking hours, this man is the oldest man to have ever lived. He has lived more life than anyone in the world.

My heart broke when he said he wanted to sleep, lay down on the bed for a little bit and just sat up and smiled. I pray that somehow the doctors finally come up with a way to help him, because you can just tell, even after everything during the war he went through, he's still able to genuinely smile and let complete strangers into his home and feed them.

A 106-year-old lady was asked, "Haven't doctors throughout your life warned you about cigarettes?" She said, "Some of them have but all of them are dead now."

This man is uncanny!
I suffer from sleep apnea and insomnia and couldn't imagine dealing with what he's going through. The most beautiful thing about him is his resilience. He's able to tackle life with a smile on his face.
Great video Drew!
