This is why I wish more people placed emphasis on overall healthy lifestyle choices than just the numbers that appear on the scale.

I paused the video on 0:11 to see if I indeed saw painted nails, and my god, that expression, the eyes, the nose lines, the nails, the beard. You really look like a fitness coach version of The Speech Prof! And not just in the way you look, but also how wholesomely you deconstruct toxicity and touch on angles I've not even realised. My wholesome internet dad had a brother! Welcome in the family, wholesome internet uncle!

I saw a nutritionist because of you. One that's ED informed and it's been enlightening. I've found it helpful

That’s what happened to me back when I was going to the gym regularly (still working my way back to it!). My weight didn’t shift but I went through dramatic body recomposition. I had a hard time shopping for myself for a good bit because I went off the memory of my previous body! 😂 my family was super happy for me because they saw I looked happier and moved a lot better.

What helped me the most was to google images "5 lbs fat vs 5 lbs muscle on a scale." PERFECT visual to keep in mind. I printed it and put it the photo next to my weights and stepper. Keeps me on track better than anything!!

This is my hope when I start at the gym tomorrow.

There is way too much hyperfixation on weight and not enough understanding of the nuances of health related to fat percentage on the body. Like the whole muscle vs fat thing is a really good example of that. But there is also a really intense phobia of fat period. And there are unhealthy extremes to all of it, including muscle mass (look into the high health risks of body builders even the ones who don't take steroids).

I get really tired of the over simplification of it all. The number on the scale doesn't matter as much as your overall health and composition. And all of that will vary from person to person no matter their shape.

Even if you are gaining muscle, you should still be losing weight if you are overweight and begin weight training because it will probably put you in a calorie deficit, which means you will lose weight overall despite an increase in lean mass.

Also, muscle is far more metabolically demanding than fat, so you metabolism will make it easier to lose fat

i weighed around 65kg before i worked out (i am focusing on muscle and strength, hopefully i can start deadlifting soon) and when i weighed myself recently, the scale said 70kg, which surprised me because i thought i must've got lighter because my pants have gotten baggier. felt betrayed until my friend told me that almost exactly what you said; muscles are just more dense so just because you are slimmer doesn't mean you are lighter. you always learn something new :P

I’ve always been very dense/had more muscle on me so as a 5’7 woman I was 170 when people thought I was 130

Love the hair, Adam. But same thing was said to me abt being a woman lifting weight. They said I should be doing cardio instead 😅

Dude, I love your content... And it's so relatable to me, I mean, I start weitght training like 5 months ago and I can see a huge difference in my overall shape, but the scale is a mess, some days it shows 2kg less and the next day 1kg more... and this is so very frustrating, but I keep in mind that size/shape is what matter in this transformation cycle... Thanks a lot for all your tips and advices!

Sorry about the poor english, and a bro-hug from Brazil 🤗

Hey, I don't normally do this but I figured I might as well try. Would you have advice on what to do when you're trying to start getting into shape? Like what excercizes or types of work would be good for super beginners?

I've been in pretty good shape most my life, mostly just through life style, never just straight work out. But I went through a severe depressive episode that wrecked me. Im in the upper-mid of my healthy BMI but I can't to a push up. I tried going to yoga, but I ended up hurting my body because I'm not used to being this out of shape and I push myself to the point I couldn't lift my arms or my legs for days after. I do my best to do daily walks but it's just not enough and everything I've tried ends up being too much and hurting me (and I don't mean oh a bit sore muscles I mean I literally used my arms to lift my leg on a chair cause I couldn't lift it up that high).

“Good luck losing weight! Muscle weighs more than fat!” Oops there it is! People admitting that weight loss to them is more important than actually getting healthier !

I wish doctors didn't focus so much on what the scale says.

Not sure if you’ve made a video about this before, but how much protein do you suggest for someone who’s trying to build muscle or even just in general? I keep hearing a gram per pound and I’ve been trying it out, but man it is difficult!

Hi Adam could you please explain how doctors decide what it is you are supposed to weigh. I get so much anxiety over that because when I look at the scale and then when I look at myself, I dont think I look like I weigh 200. But the doctor said I should weigh 140. That means means i am 60lbs overweight ?!?! And then i panic on how I am ever going to lose all of that??? I have not weighed that since highschool. And here I am I walk miles everyday I work on my feet all day long. I dont eat fast food I dont drink and I only buy zero sugar snacks and no soda ever. I dont understand, please help. How do they come up with that number just by weighing me ...😣

No. Five pounds is five pounds. Six pounds is six pounds. They are both same number of pounds so same amount of weight. Muscle is just more dense.
