It's not a myth! Somewhere, (I believe it was ACE) 1 cubic inch of muscle weighs more than 1 cubic inch of fat. You use mass not lb. Useing your logic (and this new fitness fad), everything weighs the same.

Volume has everything to do with it!! Every atom has an atomic mass, the more density there is, the more number (samples) of atomic masses present. The total of atomic masses contribute to the atomic weight. If the atomic mass of something is higher than another object, and weight being a part of atomic mass, than that object weighs more than the other.

Fine 1lb=1b but the volumes in which those substances hold that atomic weight is not equal.

Atomic weight does not act on its own. Volume, density and mass must contribute. When comparing two samples, measurements must be giving. 1 lb of muscle takes up less volume than 1 lb of fat. This "muscle and fat weigh the same" stuff is nothing more than a new commercialized gimmick.

So water and fat weigh the same because 10lb of water and 10lb of fat is 10lb? steel and fat way the same because 10lb of steel and 10lb of fat is 10lb. Air and fat weight the same because 10lb of air and 10lb of fat weight 10lb. How do you weigh water? you don't grab 10lbs of it and see how much it weighs. You take a measured sample of it and figure the weight by unit. Measuring a sample of both substances equally, muscle weighs more.
