1. Why is she pumping her legs? A lot of Surfers pump their legs when paddling to aid with gaining momentum. When you run your arms pump. It's the same concept.

2. Why did she not yell? Drownings have been proven time and time again to be silent. If the lifeguard yells what does that do? Yelling creates chaos. She is the professional let her do her job.

3. Why is the camera man not helping? He was actually sitting about 500 yards away. It's amazing what a telephoto lens can do. Why didn't he help. If you listen closely it was already explained he didn't know what was happening or going on. This is a Surfing Youtube Channel meaning %100 our attention is focused on the Ocean capturing best waves and not beach goers frolicking along the shoreline.

4. Why did she not blow her whistle? Lifeguards of the City and County of Honolulu do not use whistles.

5. Where are her parents? I do not know. The Lifeguards were able to locate them eventually. It's common practice for visiting families to not pay attention to their keiki (children) on the shoreline. Many people may assume its ok to let their children roam because other people are around. Signs are posted throughout the area warning of hazardous conditions but most will ignore and go about their vacation. This preventative rescue is a great example of why you should trust strangers to the safety of your keiki.

6. Why is the lady beside her filming? The person beside her was not filming. She was not even aware. If you pay close attention she glances up and goes back to whatever was happening on her personal electronic device.

7. Why does she have a phone in the ocean? I can't answer that.

8. I was told this was a pretty routine rescue. She really appreciates all the attention its gotten her but every day events like this happen all over the island with no recognition. Lifeguards are overworked and underpaid and this video is a way for us to give her some recognition her on this day.

As a former lifeguard, I recognized that look on her face immediately. You just have to focus on the save so you don’t lose them in the crowd. That look of relief on her face when she pulled the little girl up, I felt it in my soul! That’s the best case scenario! She KNOWS what she’s doing and CARES about her charges on that beach. ❤️ So much respect!

Another Tip: People, and especially children, should wear brightly colored swimsuits to help make them more visible to rescuers. This girl's swimsuit is the same color as the water! Thank goodness that lifeguard was so alert and observant ❤

As a grown adult I was saved at a water park by a lifeguard. I came down off the slide but when I hit the water I got turned around and didn’t know up from down. I was struggling to understand where up was and then this hand comes in and pulls me up. I am still very grateful today.
