The MOST IMPORTANT BJJ Concept - Alignment

preview_player
Показать описание
Alignment is the number 1 concept I can teach you in regardless in BJJ, or really anything combat related. Alignment refers to our body's ability to generate and absorb force maximally. Without proper alignment we cannot achieve our goal; whatever physical task that may be. In order to be successful at grappling you must keep yourself in proper alignment, and only then can you attempt to break your opponent's alignment.

The old saying "Position before Submission" is an important concept, but it isn't enough. We could have a dominant position in grappling and still struggle if we are unable to create vulnerability in our opponent, or even worse, fail to keep proper alignment ourselves (Looking at you white belts!). Think about your posture, structure, and base at all times, and if you are lacking in a specific area find a way to back up and regain it.

This whole channel is a goldmine, recently got my blue belt and have started using this channel and Rob’s Bjj concepts course to try and improve my understanding of bjj!

These are great insights into the theory behind so much of what grappling is. Sometimes students get told to do x, y or z without the reason why and then they never understand concepts.
