The MOST Important Guard Passing Principle

preview_player
Показать описание
Hip pinning is one of the two most foundational methods of controlling an opponent in side control. Since we often are fighting our opponents legs before we pass the guard, focusing on pinning the hips first makes the goal so much easier as their leg moblity and movment is significantly restricted, and as we pass our ooponents hips already being on the floor makes the finish and control in side so much easier.

Concept (or principle) videos are THE most beneficial. Thank you for the content & well put together videos, you're leaving your mark on Jiu Jitsu one video at a time.

Seriously- you make the BEST content for my style of learning. I’m a newbie white belt so understanding principles is much easier to remember than a 1000 variations of moves. Keep up the awesome work!

I loved your comment about how new people have their tailbone on the floor and how it inhibits movement. This is rarely discussed even in the most “basic” video series, even the really good ones.

I’m a crappy blue belt coming back after a long time and a training partner pointed this out to me.
This is SO basic and if you could do a whole video on this alone I think that would be incredible. Basically on the shape your body has to be in to move from bottom position on the ground. A training partner called it like a “dreidel”

I think I prefer this style of video because you’re able to talk on concepts from different angles and in slow-mo so much better and I can grasp the move better.

Thank you, Jon. This was the situation I was stuck in rolling with a brown belt yesterday. I'm 50 years old and a purple belt and I always had a hard time passing bottom guys. Will definitly try this in the next training session.

Your previous video on escaping side control has already helped me with the concept of keeping the hips up while inserting the knee. I’m on a mission to become an escape artists. Thank you for your videos.

Completely newbie here ( only a month in to my BJJ journey) and this makes perfect sense. Can’t wait to hit the mat tomorrow!

As a brand-new white belt, I really appreciate these videos. Concepts are better for me right now than techniques, and the 10-minute overviews are a perfect length; enough info to digest I'll want to watch it again, but I can begin to apply the principles now. Thank you for the great content!

I've been looking for this type of content for a long time, and came across your videos randomly. Your teaching style is wonderful. It is hard as a newbie to follow the 1234 steps taught for a very specific position. Instead, learning the principles helps me stay on course as I roll, knowing the mechanics of the positions.
THANK YOU

Great video Jon. The V.O. with slow motion really locks the concepts in for me. Easier to digest compared to real time.
Always enjoy your content and breakdowns. Appreciate the work.

Fantastic concept, will definitely take this into rolls.

Superb - been unconsciously doing this for years without really linking it to the tailbone specifically.

I have learned the most from your BJJ Principle videos. Knowing the principle really helps me when my mind blanks for specific sweeps or passes during rolling. THANK YOU!

I stumbled upon your vid when I really need it the most, there are days when I reacted too slowly and got into a guard immediately and just spend half of the rolling mins exerting so much energy to get out of it and sometimes I really blanked out and can't recall the right technique to use, but fundamental like this allow me to maybe at least focus on one thing at a time and may allow me to shut down/minimize the danger presented. Thanks for this awesome content!

LOVE THIS! I have been trying to include more at-home study into my training, but it is extremely overwhelming to try to wade through the sea of technique videos on the internet. These concept/principle videos are so helpful! Thanks for the amazing content! ❤👊
