I'm still quite fearful of canning (especially meats) and you are the only channel that gives me comfort and helps me build confidence - thank you!

I have always stored my rings on my canned jars, and have never had a problem.

My mother did a lot of tomato canning when I was a little girl growing up in San Diego. My father would bring home about a dozen or more crates of large tomatoes from the packing plants. The tomatoes were too ripe to ship to other parts of the country before spoiling. He was able to buy crates for $1 each (back in the 1960's). My mother would have me tap on the tops of the cooled jars to check the seals (she'd be listening, too). She told me that a low sound when I tapped on a lid meant that the seal didn't take well, which meant that the jar had to be put in the refrigerator and used with a couple of days. I don't ever remember hearing the sound of a bad seal. Of course, when my father came home with the tomatoes me and my friends were waiting with salt shakers in hand! We'd pick out the biggest, ripest ones we could find and gorge ourselves on my front lawn. Made my dad happy to see us eating the tomatoes like they were candy. Great memories! 🍅

Another way that I test to ensure the lid is secure, after jars have cooled, is to Press the middle of the jar lid with your finger. The lid is not sealed if the lid springs up when you release your finger.

I am concerned about the different canned foods that you might have purchased from the grocery stores that are stamped with a sell by date on the different items and containers of some tins last for years after the expired dates where some items are not being safe to use and have noticed that cheaper items are not safe shortly after they have expired. Stores own brands of items like tins of soups and sauces and tomatoes and tins of fruits and milk pudding that you can see from opening the cans that they are not fit to use in 😂disgusting discolour of the cans and item’s in the cans. Looking closely at the metal cans of food they are not treated with any kind of chemicals like paint or lacquer to prevent them causing corrosion inside of the cans. I live in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and don’t drive to keep a pantry full of jars in my pantry and tinned food items for emergency purposes and convenience reasons for the past forty years and have had no problems finding food unfit for consumption. But since 2020 am finding food that has just expired by a few days and not eaten for it to have gone bad in the canned foods industry is not only bad today and inferior metal to the people who have been prepping food in stock piles of food for the last few years and in the past years tinned food to having no expired dates and people who have thrown good food away for people need to be careful and cautious when they open their tinned foods and look closely at their appearance and inspection of food and the tin can itself to smell a metallic smell and taste the food isn’t safe to consume. Tinned tomatoes are usually in a lacquered cans or paint lined cans with jars of being able to test the button to see if they have lost their pressure and air has been allowed to seep into the jars. The rule was that if a can was damaged not to purchase it but people buy damaged marked down products. I have opened tins of custard and milk pudding to help people understand that the new cheaper outlets like German stores that are everywhere in their cans are the worst for their food quality because even before they have gone out of date they can still have a metallic taste and smell and discolour to the inside of the cans. Tins have been getting thinner and less robust in easily damaged cans of beer cans that can become damaged and soda cans which can leave a metallic taste in your mouth and taste awful for some people are not aware of the danger to not rely on processed foods and manufacturers standards are slipping from their profits before the consumer needs to be addressed and safety standards are not being properly handled and the food poisoning that is rising in fast food products and preventing people who use them.
