Darth Maul was supposed to die earlier in the Star Wars Rebels series earlier than what we received. Maul was originally supposed to die off in season 2 in a fight against Darth Vader.

To be honest I think malls ends in Rebels is the best one. Seeing Obi-Wan best one of his longest foes and forgive him at the same time, Darth Maul's realizing that the chosen one was there and that he would avenge both of their lives. It's just amazing
