My own method was to activate array modifier while modelling a tile, but your method is more handy! Thanks ❤

Wait ive used blender for years and never knew about linked duplicates... Its the wrong tip but bloody hell its helpful.

Pretty useful to know, my solution would've been to duplicate, move, merge and cut each side down the middle, so you're left with a tileable piece.
