Back in 1978 on our first day of Jump School, the Fort Benning Jump Team made a demonstration jump. One of the team (a Captain) cut away his main and deployed his reserve as part of the demonstration. The reserve failed and we watched in total disbelief as he plummeted into a parking lot. The Black Hat instructors got every quite, and quickly formed us back up and marched us back to the battalion area. While we were all standing around outside the barracks trying to wrap our heads around what we had just seen, the battalion 1st Sergeant turned on the PA system outside the battalion area and put a record on, which started playing this song! Only a very small percent of our class quite that day. The rest of us stayed on to eventually earn our wings. Yes jumping is dangerous, but so is life in general. The pride of doing something others cannot or will not do stays with you forever.

"He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar." THAT sensation, in Airborne School, was the first realization that this first jump was the real thing.

Band of Brothers is one hell of a good cartoon. And dear God, I hope this guy knows the word is “glory” not “gory”.
