Should you play Persona 5 Royal on SAFETY DIFFICULTY???

Persona 5 Royal was released recently and I thought it would be a good idea to discuss something I thought may be controversial, playing on Safety mode. With the way the game is, there's a lot to be gained from using the mode depending on what you're looking for, but a lot of people refuse to use it due to fear of shame or not feeling good enough. It is 100% valid to play persona on safety difficulty. Dont let others discourage you because you play on an easy difficulty, its a game you bought it. Your rules.

I’m playing on Safety and am having a lot of fun. This is my first Persona game so I want to get used to it because it seemed overwhelming to me. I’m visually impaired so the reduced security levels are a huge help for me since I can’t always see the Shadows even with Third Eye.

This is a very thoughtfully put together video - it helped me gain insight into why I was playing the game. Have been playing it on normal up until the terrible Okumura boss fight, have found pretty much all the fights until now easy, but have been hooked on the story/character interactions. You've helped me make the decision to play on safe mode and get back to what I like most about the game without getting bogged down by the combat. Thanks a lot!

I would say this video isn’t really for core persona players or dedicated JRPG fans. It’s for the new persona players. My first play through of vanilla Persona 5 was done on merciless and I got the platinum. Royal’s new mechanics make the game’s difficulty laughable at best in comparison, which is why I just ran through it on safety mode to get the trophies.

i started on normal, do have some struggles, at most i can go down to easy, and change again later, but you can't change back from safety mode.

Just finished the game. While I did play the whole game on Easy mode, I did the final Maruki boss fight using the Safe mode and spammed Izanagi-no-Okami Picaro and Haru's One-Shot Kill in my playthrough. What a game. :D

im on my first playthrough, and i was playing it on normal towards the beginning, but then i saw everyone saying how easy the game is so i decided to switch it to hard for a challenge. it honestly was pretty easy for a while until okumura happened. i died so many times and almost changed to normal difficulty, after a while i finally ended up beating it on hard which felt really good but man it was painful. after watching ur vid, i might switch to normal just so achievements are easier

I have been an unintentionally fan of Persona because of...a certain player who played the series so terribly and got me into it. Then an iceberg solidified that fan-ship describing some of the lore of the series, including Shin Megami Tensei. Truth be told... I am very happy to join the series, but I like giving games its due. So I play on Easy. Not out any shameless pride, but to learn the game at my own pace. The sooner I learn, the more prepared I'll be for Persona 4 and Persona 3 on Switch.

Honestly I was pissed at one of the bosses and switched to safety without thinking I was mad I couldn’t switch back at first but honestly I still had a great time

I usually play using normal difficulty, but when fighting okumura I changed it to safe mode, and it can't be changed anymore lol

I'm terrible at games. Playing on normal, it is ok for now, just beat first palace. Had a little difficulty with defeating kamoshida. Extra context: I play Pokémon games like a 5 year old does

Well, playing on normal doesn't seem to be so hard tbh. It gives a little bit of challenge and that's all. NG+ with overpowered personas feels kind of boring because you wipe off the map and since dungeoning is a major half of the game, stripping yourself out of the fun is a disservice to yourself.

Tbh I'm not a big fan of jrpg genre though I've completed original persona 5, but the dungeoning was pretty nice.

The only thing i see with safe difficulty is that for me at least i cant capture other personas unless im using a level 1 persona, legit im thinking of redoing the whole game on easy or normal because i cant capture any low level persona without em dying on the spot instead of getting to low health, aside from that i dont see anything bad per se, its just a difficulty made for people who want to experience the game but not go too deep in it and also dont have a lot of time to put into it
