NIV is my main translation that I use, with KJV as my secondary translation. I also love the NASB and NKJV. I like to use the NLT when reading the stories of the Bible. As a neat side note, I won a ASV 1901 in a raffle in preaching school.

With me, rule #1, perhaps even the only rule is: Which English translation uses the oldest text? For example, does it use the NA eclectic text for the New Testament and does it prefer the Dead Sea scrolls and LXX for its Old Testament?

NIV has a lot of missing verses
Acts 22:16 calling on the name of the Lord

Here's what I've been rotating through lately:
1. New King James Version
2. Modern English Version
3. Berean Standard Bible
4. New American Standard Bible (1977)
5. The Geneva Bible (1599)

I am very grateful for the Modern Literal Version. I recommend it. I was raised on the King James version.
