I think also a triangular wound is difficult to stitch up, making wounds more lethal

The good piercing ability is also why early bayonets were triangular, given that a bayonet mounted on a rifle is essentially a spear, which makes a thrusting blade ideal. Triangular bayonets fell out of fashion around the late 1800s, likely for a multitude of reasons.

Triangular and other odd shaped blades were used in the past (most notably, rifle mounted bayonets) but they are now in violation of the Geneva conventions due to the wounds being near impossible to stitch meaning a stab wound from a blade like that is a death sentence

Isn’t it now illegal? Bayonets used to be 3 sided and I thought they were outlawed as cruel because sticking the would was incredibly difficult

Add a twist to the blade and it becomes illegal in most if not all countries

You might lose your slashing ability but it would still suck to get smacked w/ a 3 sided blade.... I can imagine that as a sharp baton.
