.I am a person who uses the 3 section staff in the video. people called me <white armor man>
I've seen many comments, and I'll explain a little bit. I made that weapon for sparring myself. Since safety was the top priority, a light ppc pipe was used. For this reason, it was a safety weapon with strong repulsion after hitting. Because of its strong repulsive force, it is more difficult to control than the actual weapon. The 3 section staff is more efficient in a wider space. And that studio had a low ceiling. Due to space problems, more technology could not be shown.

That weapon is 350 grams. It's very light, right? Three-section staff made of hard wood, or aluminum or steel, is very dangerous. I always think about the safety of my sparring colleague. And the 3 section staff is a weapon that is difficult to use with a fencing mask. This weapon requires users to have a wide view. This is because the wrong usage hurts the user himself.

The 3 section staff is personally a weapon of tremendous power. There are many comments comparing swords and killing power. However, if you are not wearing armor, the 3 section staff can also beat the swordsman. In the situation of wearing armor, I am confident that the spear is the most lethal. I've been doing martial arts for 30 years. In my experience, spear and poleam are the most effective murder weapons.

And in fact, I'm an expert in creation. Next time, I will show you my creativity. (^^) I'm making all the sparring safety weapons myself. This is very safe and fun.

This is the 1st time I’ve seen someone competent with a three section staff actually spar somebody with it and make it effective. It’s hard to block that thing cause it has a tendency to wrap around any blocks-I need to practice with mine again- love this channel!

We makin it out of Dagon's domain with this one

It looks like one of the major strengths of this weapon, besides its reach and its ability to store a lot of momentum, is that it has so many "ready positions" that the wielder can use. If an oppenent is not familiar with this weapon, you could change the ready position after every couple of attacks, limiting their ability to adapt and predict what will happen next.

As someone who has been on the receiving end of the Triple Nunchaku. I can tell you its not easy to deal with and its hard to block. great video loved every minuet of this because it brought back old memories of my martial arts days. Thank you very much for this video.

Always wondered how a three-section staff worked. I think the sword guy was a little too cautious, but I also wouldn't have any idea how to deal with that long-ranged aggression myself.

We need the triple chuck guy to fight the spear guy.

To bring some context the San Jie gun or three section staff was an urban weapon. Meant to be used in towns and cities you can tell because it is basically a concealable long staff. It was meant to deal with other concealable weapons like short swords, knives, sticks although in training it is confronted to all types of weapons.
I have never seen it against shield and sword and yes many comments are correct the sword guy just has to rush in protecting the head and deal a stab or cut.

I've never heard of it refered to as "triple nunchaku"... We always called it the "three sectional staff", or "Sansetsukon" (or ORIGINALLY it was known as "Sanjiegun"). But my old training partners and I preferred the former. But I'm sure you already knew that, and just simplified it for all the people who aren't really knowledgeable of traditional martial arts weapons. Either way, , that was a great demonstration!👍 It's truly a FORMIDABLE WEAPON to be proficient in!! But it's hard as hell to learn compared to nunchaku, escrima sticks, or the commonly known "Bo staff". I tried picking it up a little over 20 years ago (to add to my "weapons proficiencies list" lol...) But I didn't stick with it, after almost knocking my OWN A$$ out a few dozen times!! 😂 Now I've gotta go watch the rest of your videos, since I'm now in my 40's and need the motivation to try and get back into shape (like my mental new years resolutions said I would)!!👊😆

I gained much respect to this weapon! Great demonstration!

The problem with comparing a blunt and an edged weapon is their damage thresholds.

If a blunt weapon hits you anywhere except the head, it has to be a solid enough hit to break a bone in order to do more than annoy you. A bunch of glancing hits and you're no worse off than taking a few punches.

An edged weapon, on the other hand, starts a countdown timer on your life with every hit you take. Even just a couple shallow cuts can cause significant blood loss when you can't stop to bandage them.

That 3 section staff looks mega brutal, and just like a flail it can strike over a shield and can strike behind the point of impact. It makes it difficult to block. But if the swordsman just accepted taking the hit on the shield and pushed forwards I bet he could have landed more hits. The 3 section staff is cool, but it can only be swung, so getting inside that arc will make it much less effective.

I would love to see this pairing in a few weeks after they have fought a few more times, and I would really love to see a spear against this 3 section staff.

It looks like a very "committing" weapon. Once you swing you can't really change course or adjust it too much. So the counter lies not in parrying or blocking, but avoiding it and punishing misses. Even if there's a continuation strike, there should be a gap to rush, since the change in range would be a bitch to deal with.

From what I can see, one of the main challenges using the three-section staff is being able to quickly change which section(s) to grip. It looks difficult to master!

As one who has fought a fair bit against some wild weapons like the 3 section staff, I will say the shield user is very cautious and afraid of getting hit. It may have been the room you were sparring in that you couldn't show its full range, but there were many times I noticed you trying to bait the shield out, and had he actually taken it, you would have lost more than you did.

This is brilliant.
My favourite sessions with weapons have always been always mixed sparring. I love the safety version of the three staff, and I hope I get to fight someone with one, one day. Your video was very instructive.

Some thoughts:

It may make more sense for the win condition for the 3-staff user to be something like a blow to the head or two blows elsewhere, and the win condition for the swordsman to be a single blow anywhere. I imagine this would lead to less visually interesting bouts, as it would encourage the swordsman generally to rush forwards, however, I think it might lead to more enjoyable and instructive fights, as it means that the 3 staff users can't rely on unrealistic 1-hit kills from body shots, and would have to work harder to defend himself against the bladed weapon.

My sensi taught me this weapon after I trained with more than 20. It is my fav technique and weapon of choice. It's blends escrima nunchauk and staff movements and mostly, is unstoppable. I make my own and train students when they are ready with them. A gun if close, can be easily removed from a fight. You have close to 12-17 feet of reach dependent on your height. I love this weapon of self defense😊😊😊😊

I really like the versatility of the 3-section-staff because you can switch to melee and distanced weapon any time which ruins the technique of your opponent.he will be disrupted every time you switch stance. Also, almost any opponent wouldn't know of how fatal the switch from mid to long distance of the staff within a swing.this was demonstrated while the opponent's shield was up and the staff user hits the shield with the mid section thus propelling the outwards section to hit the head with a force which can break skull

I’ve always wondered how the 3-sectional staff was employed. I’ve never seen it in action before. Impressive.
