In this lecture, we review the homework for chapter 7 of our text on the intro to statistics. We look at frequency tables, constructing histograms and estimating the mean, median, standard deviation and variance for binned data. We also look at how adding a constant or multiplying by a constant factor changes the values of the mean, median, and standard deviation. In the next lecture, we will look at bivariate data sets.

What if the median or quartile's position is for example, 13.5. What do I do to find the step number?

If the bins were written as [x, y) rather than (x, y] does the formula (right bin-left bin)/frequency still stand for finding the step size? Also, what about (left bin) + (step #)(step size) for finding the median?
