No one talked about childfree life when I was growing up. This made things confusing and sometimes I felt a little bit crazy for choosing this lifestyle. Today I'm telling you all the things I wish people had told me when it comes to making the choice to live without kids.

The older I get, the more I realize, children are not cute toys to play with. They are completely autonomous individuals who have their own lives, wants, interests, needs and desires.

Every time I tell people with children that I did nothing but sleep on the weekend, I see the envy in their eyes. Those looks solidify why I do not have children.

I think we don't appreciate the simple things in life, so people almost think if you aren't overstimulated you're life is dull. I enjoy reading and listening to the rain, like it is something I look forward to. You don't need to be overwhelmed and busy to feel like life is fulfilled, you just need to learn what little things you enjoy and thoroughly appreciate them.

My opinion is that many parents are codependent narcissist that should have never had children. Children are not a necessity for a full life. When asked why people had a child, their answers sound very controlling and narcissistic most of the time. It’s always about “them” and not the child.

I do believe that most parents who make these comments to childfree people are doing so to convince themselves that they made the right decision. If they were really so sure, they wouldn't need to use (and bring down) others.

My partner and I are 35 and we both always knew we never wanted children. Life is equally interesting, fun, fulfilling, tiring and difficult with or without kids. None of it is better or worse, it is different.

I have two kids. Let me tell you about vacations with kids. They suck. They aren't really vacations, they're basically babysitting jobs. If someone ever tells you vacations without kids will be boring, they're full of it. Going back to work is how I decompress from vacations with kids.

I hate when people assume that I must hate kids. I love kids, I just don't want any of my own. I wish people would understand that I love having children in my life. I love being an aunt, a godparent and a frequent babysitter for many friends. I just don't want a kid of my own. I wish people wouldn't frame it like either you like kids then you'll have them or you hate them.

I’m 46 and never wanted kids. I knew at the age of 9! I love it and have no regrets. And let me tell you what’s not discussed!! I have had dozens upon dozens of women with children whom after talking to me about my personal decision, secretly confess to me how they wish they were brave enough to have chosen the same. There are tons of women out there with kids whom are in the closet about wishing they never had kids. When I’ve asked them why they had kids they all said because their spouse and/or family pressured them to have them. And so they felt they had to, NOT because they genuinely wanted to be mothers. It’s very taboo to chose to be child free. Thank God my parents accepted that about me 10 years ago and finally stopped asking.

Growing up in a very religious town where the birth rates are very high, I never heard not having kids was even an option, unless you couldn't have them, which was portrayed as the saddest thing ever. Having kids never appealed to me as a child, but I thought for years I would eventually want them. Now I'm finally content with it: I am childfree and I love it. 😁

You don’t have to do something extraordinary to make up for not having kids… ooof this is the big one for me! I have really struggled thinking that I have to essentially cure cancer if I choose not to have kids. Thanks for these great reminders 😊

I'd rather be bored than stressed. And besides, what's wrong with boring? You can be boring if you want. You don't need an exciting and busy life to be happy if that's not your personality. If you're a boring person you'll still be boring with kids. But who cares anyway? Your life isn't a reality show.

I think it is very suspicious when parents try so earnestly to change your mind about being childfree. It’s almost as if they need you to give them validation for their own life choices. Misery loves company perhaps? 🤔
