I must admit that I was confused by the “4” cutting edges, however the rest of the video was excellent. Thank you for the trouble that you went to to present it. I grew up on a farm and everyone did their own maintenance on just about everything, watching an old timer hand sharpening a 1/2 inch drill on a bench grinder is now a lost art. The checking device, 2 hexagonal nuts tac welded together to form the correct angle, pure genius. As mentioned by one commenter, that a drill bit has 2 cutting facets, as do chisels and hand plane blades, a slight rotation of the drill bit facilitates this. This was one of the first things I learned on the “hand sharpening “ technique. Getting the amount of rotation and keeping the drill bit at a constant angle was my challenge and getting both sides identical was extremely difficult for me. Best $35 dollars I’ve spent in a long time. Interesting the different names of the same item, mine is an Ozito from Bunnings (Australia)

Now, THIS is a proper beginning-to-end demo.

This is great,
Read the instructions that were provided with the unit, and there is no way I would have deciphered that method from there script

I've watched a hand full of these vids . And as a metal worker mostly 2mm up to 20mm plates, UBs, PFC s, RHS, SHS etc  I would be very happy to see some one put these to a true test . With a 750w drill I can drill timber with the bluntest drill bit one can find . Timber is no true test . Don't you truly agree ?

Mechanical engineer here: Was that script written entirely by the sales and marketing team, in the absence of technical oversight? I ask simply because twist drills have two cutting edges, not the four your presenter claimed. (One for each flute.) Seems like a decent product marred by a script that is simply wrong on a point that anyone who knows anything about drills and how they function would know.

Well it is not quite as simple as that but if you take your time it does sharpen your drills pretty good. The tricky bit is setting the drill up in the jig first and it is much easier with bigger drills, smaller sizes are a bit harder to get setup just right and because of all the play in the plastic you need to really hold all the parts nice and tight and just move the drill back and forth nice and slow.

Thanks mate, that's really helpful. I bought an Aldi one (sorry) but it's identical in function. However, the instructions that came with it are are clear as mud and as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle. I now feel semi-confident I'm not going to destroy my drill bit(s).

Edit: It cut at the wrong angle (too shallow). Don't know if this was the Aldi sharpener's fault or mine.

it does the job. steel, aluminium and wood.

I bought this hoping it would save me money on drill bits. Did it exactly as you show here. Theres so much play in the slide in drill bit accessory that it basically makes a pigs ear of any drill bit you put in there. Returning it tomorrow. For the love of god, stop selling this rubbish 😂

I can't find where you can buy spare parts like the grinding wheel ?

Hmm, why are you using metal drill bit to drill soft wood to show how sharp it is? Why wouldn't you drill like 5mm steel and show how fast it will go through that where it was meant to be used?

Thank goodness for this video. The written instructions that come with this sharpener are not as good as what is shown in this video. The thing that I also worked out was that this sharpener does not cater to small drill bits i.e. you need a certain length to be able to spin the drill bit to have the V touch the 4 edges, which will then also be able to reach the grinding stone.

So much easier then the writer instructions lol

I have the ozito sharpener the only thing I don't like about it that it does not do 1/2inch

It isn't as easy as the video makes out. Shop bought drills are sharpened flatter, at a more horizontal angle. This means the first go in the Ozito Drill Sharpener will just take off a bit of the edge, away from the drill top cutting edge. You will have to repeat the sharpening maybe 10 times for it to put a new edge right up to the drill point. Another thing is keep pushing the bottom of the drill lightly pressed down toward the machine when you set up to keep the cut even - do not let it wobble up. Finally, you will have to push the red holder up with your thumb to bring it against the cutting wheel. Otherwise, it is cutting fresh air. This problem is caused by lax measurement during manufacture. They sacked all line inspectors in the 1970s. My father was one of them - not for Ozito.

Lol. There are 2 cutting edges. The back of the 2 cutting surfaces never touches the medium your drilling, not even in reverse. If it does you have sharpened it wrong. The drill sharpener is actually set up to do this as it swings from centre to one side only, not both ways. The actor presenting this just has no idea what he is saying. He is only following a script so it's not his fault, he is just an actor. He just has obviously never sharpened a drill bit in his life. He also didn't cut reliefs on the back of the cutting surfaces to make sure the rear edges don't touch anything and to allow the debris to clear the cut. Omg. 😅
