I’ve been mistaken as an employee at so many stores since I was 12. All of them were by women who seemed tired and busy and none of them were when I was wearing employee colors. None of them were rude tho so I consider myself lucky on that front

"He's their problem now."
"No you don't understand! That's where I actually work!"

Happend to me a couple months ago. I just said “$6.50” and she was like “ok” and then I left before I was able to face the repercussions of my own actions

I had this happen to me! It was so annoying. The woman literally interrupted me and my husband’s conversation by saying, “I know you’re busy chit chatting, but I need you to stop and get something for me.”

We both turned to her and I said, “Excuse me? I don’t even work here.”

She didn’t even apologize! She just made a loud huffing noise and walked away. The nerve of some people! 🙄

and the implication that an employee would know the price of every product in the store offhand is wild

This happened to me many times. Once at Walgreens, a woman insisted i worked there even after i told her at least three times i didn't. The manager that day was a friend and former coworker. She told him that i refused to help her. He looked, pointed, called me by name, and then informed her that i did not work there. She never apologized, but the embarrassment on her face was enough for me!

I, a punk teenager in cargo trousers and a black denim battle jacket, once got asked in an ikea warehouse section if I was an employee, as if ikea workers in that part of the store don’t wear bright yellow or orange hi-vis jackets…

“See that funny little white label on the shelf under where you picked up that product? That’s a magical thing called a PRICE TAG”

I love when customers ask the price as if im supposed to remember the cost of well over 2000 different items in the store
We have price scanners every 3rd aisle
Use them

I literally had my 4 year old daughter with me, and someone must have accidentally recognized that i do work (not sure if they knew that i actually worked there) there, but the morning shift.. i am not sure if they originally saw my little one, but they were super apologetic when they realized either i was off the clock or if they didn't know, they were embarrassed. I still helped and pointed them in the right direction.
Much nicer story than this, karen.

I love your videos, Craig!!!
Really calms me down, knowing that i am not alone and we all have to stick together.

This is actually on my bucket list "to get fired from somewhere I don't work at" but I'd also pull an uno reverse saying that "this is the reason your wife/husband has been sleeping with me"

Had something almost similar like this happened to me with one of my favorite customers when i worked in retail. She was a lovely woman at the store i worked at. We ran into each other in another store, and she asked me if i could look for something in the back. I told her i didn't have authorization to go back there, and it took her a minute to realize we were not at the place i worked at.

Had a manger walking up behind me ask me to do something whenever I got a second and the look on his face when I turned around and he realized I wasn't who thought I was still makes me laugh but in his defense I think he was looking at the paperwork in his hand and just seen the color of my shirt when he asked

I've definitely gotten this a solid handful of times, especially since I tend to absentmindedly straighten items and put them where they belong if they're in the wrong section of a display. My favorite outcome is when I know the store well enough to answer their question despite just being a fellow shopper. :D
